Am I crazy to think the Saints can make the playoffs?

Yes you are crazy.

That defense is still a flaming pile of garbage and the offense is nothing more than solid. They won't finish over 500.

Defense is bad but when they're creating turnovers as they have done the last 3 weeks, it really helps. They forced 8 turnovers in the last 3 games

I thought it was over for NO...did not think they would win yesterday either so what do I know? I won't say you're crazy, but they need a lot of help...MIN and & ATL have firm grips on the 5 & 6 seed right now...if ATL split with CAR, then most likely they will take one WC spot at the very least.

I wouldn't call Minnesota grip exactly firm. They're 1 game up on several teams which is nothing with 9 or 10 games left in the season. Minnesota next 7 games isn't exactly easy either. Saints schedule is much easier over the next 7 compared to Minnesota who plays @ Chicago, VS St. Louis, @ Oakland, VS GB, @ ATL, VS SEA, & @ ARIZ

I should've said right now referring to the 2 game led on NO...it might not look firm in 3 weeks...you're right. By week 10 in think the picture will be a lot more clear for the Saints anyway.

I think division title is out of the picture but WC is up for grabs. Of those teams you mentioned for the WC race, only one of those teams have more wins than the Saints which is Minnesota. The other teams all has 3 wins and in Chicago case they have 2 wins
New Orleans is in the mix here for sure. I just doubt they can separate themselves from the herd.

Barring a total collapse, Carolina and Atlanta should be in, either as Division Champ or Wild Card. That leaves one other slot that should go to NFCW or NFCN.
Both Carolina and Atlanta have similar schedules to NO.

After the 0-3 start it would be a good feeling entering week 15 or 16 with a chance to make the playoffs. Hopefully they keep this up

Only one person made reference to New Orleans winning the division. I gave up on the division in September. This thread had more to do with getting a WC spot

In week 8...yes, the Saints are still alive but the margin for error is razor thin...they have 4 NFC losses already...they do have 4 games remaining that can impact the standings a little...CAR, ATL they need more help even if they win those two to effect those teams. NYG and WAS are big because only the DIV winner is going most likely.

I was not indicating that you said they would win, I was just pointing out that probably one WC spot should end up going to Carolina or Atlanta

The Saints are still in the conversation and I think that's a good thing considering the start.

No question - anything could happen but when you start with a 3 loss hole it is sure an up hill climb

I have a feeling that embarrassing L to Tampa in W2 will come back to haunt us

It might, but the Bucs had WAS on the ropes until the very end yesterday...Lovie went into a 2 min DEF and they couldn't keep WAS out of the endzone...bad loss there.

Its going to take 10-6 to take a Wild Card. The 3-3 Rams, for example, have the Niners twice, the Bears, the Ravens, the Lions and the Bucs still on their schedule.

Most teams should really still be trying to just win their division. Saints are just in a weird spot. I'd say they have about a 5% chance at the playoffs

edited. hopefully not a Freudian edit.

Schedule gets really soft now. They got 3 more AFC South teams which should be 2 wins at least, if not 3 wins. Most of their remaining tough games are in New Orleans where they seem to have gotten their swagger back. Here is the rest of the schedule.

VS NYG
VS TEN
@ WSH
BYE
@ HOU
VS CAR
@ TAMPA
VS DET
VS JACKSONVILLE
@ATL

THoughts? 9-7 is possible which I think will be the record needed for the 2nd WC

Nope your not crazy... They seem to be playing better football, and it's always how you finish not how you start.. They have a shot ...

Actually, Nobody should sleep on the Bucs as a spoiler right now. They did everything yesterday except win the game. TBY is going to angry as hell about how they were treated by the refs against WAS, and I fully expect them to beat ATL straight up this week. Check the stats of the CAR game: they outgained the Panthers 411-244, but Jameis killed them with 4 picks, and they opened the game with a fumble that handed CAR a FG. Jameis appears to be getting better each week, and they have 4 NFCS games left. I feel that somebody in that division is gonna miss the WC by one game.

That's why it's kind of easy to dismiss an "easy schedule". Their competition within the division have that as well. After that, you can pretty much find 5 very winnable games on the schedule for everyone else in the mix. Somebody still has to create an upset or two to distinguish themselves and that is pretty tough to predict right now.
