Yanks need to do the same.

We're tied with them in losses. Just played 4 fewer games.

We got 4 in Baltimore before heading to Cleveland for 4.

Need to win at least 3 of 4 vs Baltimore which may be tough considering Sonny Gray is scheduled to start.

There isn't a single team in baseball with fewer losses than the Yankees but I'm sure Dirt will be here shortly to cry about how bad they are lol.

As much as I hate to say it, the Red Sox are a great team. Sucks balls that one of the top 2 teams in baseball will be forced to play in this 1 game playoffs BS.

That is a joke and should be thrown away.

Either go back to the old system or if you want 5 teams, then change this 1 game playoffs to a best of 3 series

While the idea of Mitch Moreland in an All-Star game sounds pretty dumb, it's been a pretty horrendous year for AL 1st basemen. The highest ranked 1B per WAR from the AL is Matt Olson and he ranks 8th (and he's at 1.7 WAR). Moreland does have the highest wRC+ among 1B with 200+ plate appearances by a good measure (138 to Smoak's 123).

Major League Leaderboards » 2018 » First Basemen » Dashboard | FanGraphs Baseball

Of course, whether he'll sustain this production is another question. His BABIP is nearly 50 points above his career average so I'd expect his BA to regress at least. I'll gladly take his ZiPS and Steamer projections though (111-112 wRC+).

The only reason I would be against best of 5 for the Wild Card teams is because that is too long of a break for the other 3 teams. Baseball teams are not used to being off for a week.

Best of 5 means a week off for their opponent which gives a pretty big advantage for the winner of the WC series

What nobody is mentioning is the WC winner has to play the team with the best record in the first round. So most likely the Yankees and Red Sox finish the season with the two best records in baseball, then play each other in the best of five divisional round.

The MLB playoffs system is such a mess. Incredibly stupid.

IMO it should strictly go by records after the 1 game WC

For the longest time, teams from the same division couldn't play each other until the championship series. That's out the window now, apparently?

I'm ok with it being out the window but it should strictly go by records.

If you have the best record in the AL then you should not face the team with the 2nd best record in the ALDS because they're the wildcard team. That is just dumb.

Not to mention that Seattle is on pace to win 101 games and be the road team in the WC.

The luckiest team in baseball are the Indians.

The A's are better than them but because they play in the best division in baseball, they will likely miss out on the playoffs.

Went out with the WC play in game.

The first year of it the Yankees played the WC winner Orioles in the Divisional round.

highly disagree with that. A's have outperformed their pythag W-L by several games and the Mariners have outperformed it by a whopping 10 games. Despite being 57-34, they've only outscored their opponents by 17 runs and are 26-11 in one-run games. A's have the same run differential. Indians have outscored opponents by 72 runs and have gotten a lot of underperformances from their bullpen (and Carrasco). A's and Mariners are still good teams, but I'd expect considerable regression especially from Seattle and I'd expect the Indians to outperform those two from here on out.
