I hope he goes anywhere other than the NYG. We need the middle of that DL that killed us broken up:

Johnathan Hankins - DL - Free Agent
ESPN's Jordan Raanan has "heard" there is "another team in [the] mix" for free agent DT Johnathan Hankins.

Hankins has been holding out for a better deal than the reported multi-year offer the Giants have had on the table "for weeks," but he has yet to find it. It is possible his agent is spreading rumors of "another team" to get New York to up the offer. Hankins remaining with the Giants still seems like the most likely outcome.

Depending on how the draft plays out I would take a flyer on Tracy Porter. Cheap, veteran depth. His play slipped but as an insurance option with some upside it may be worthwhile.

I look at the roster and see a defense that has some potential on the DL. I look at the secondary and forsee major issues. Jerruh wants a war daddy and I really don't see aNY in this draft. I think the impact DE are long gone by 28. Lucky for us there will be several good dbs left. It would make more sense to me to load up on dbs in this draft and play nickel all season. I want to see us draft corners and safeties round 1-4.

I wanted Hankins, but I wouldn't really go much higher than this and if you are in the same ballpark he is going back to NYG. So I hope the Colts or someone else give him more and break up the middle of the Giants DL.

Report: Giants offered Hankins $7 million per year

Is this the guy from Slum Dog Millionaire?

Robert Blanton signs with Cowboys

The Cowboys are expected to add pieces to their defense in next week’s draft, but they’re using other avenues to bolster that side of the ball as well.

Agent Jason Bernstein announced on Twitter that his client Robert Blanton has signed with the team. The veteran safety spent last season with the Bills.

Blanton started two of the 10 games he played for Buffalo and spent the first four years of his career with the Vikings. Blanton was a regular starter in one of those seasons, so he may wind up as depth for a team that lost Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox as free agents this offseason.

Jeff Heath is an in-house option to start alongside Byron Jones and the Cowboys could also opt for a safety with one or more of their seven draft picks.

I'd be lying if I said I knew much about the guy, but looks like he could backup both FS and SS and is good on STs. Looks like a smart signing to me. I'm assuming pretty cheap and we need bodies at S. I'll admit even a depth type guy is a smart move at safety IMO right now. I'm sure if we hit on a safety or two in the draft/UDFA his salary won't be an impediment to cutting him if he doesn't pan out and he has started in the past so maybe he can play a little.

Yeah, which is probably one of the reasons why I like the signing of a guy I don't know much at all about!!!

Exactly. Who knows who will win the spot next to Jones, but right now we have 3 guys to fight for it and I suspect we will add at least one or two more by the time we hit the preseason games (maybe one relatively early pick and another vet FA or UDFA:noidea:).

Assuming we draft a SS it'll be great that there's vet competition for them. You know those vets will be working their ass off in order to show they belong which should in turn force the rookie to raise his game.

Good news for Tapper. If we go DL twice early there is going to be some real competition for the last couple of DE spots. Tapper needs to show something this offseason.

Charles Tapper - DL - Cowboys
Cowboys DE Charles Tapper (back) is on track for OTAs.

Tapper was cleared back in January after spending his rookie year on IR. He’ll likely be moved slowly but should get in some work this offseason. Tapper has potential to be a major part of the Cowboys’ defensive line rotation.

See ya Shaq:doh:

Shaq Evans - WR - Cowboys
NFL suspended WR Shaq Evans four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Evans will be eligible to return against the Packers in Week 5, though it would be a surprise if he's still on the team by then. The 26-year-old has yet to play an NFL down since arriving as a fourth-round pick in 2014. He's likely just a camp body.
