Most years, that is the case except, like you mentioned, 2014. How Meyer didn't win it in 2014 is baffling.
I agreed that he was screwed over. They like the feel good story of Jerry Kill at Minnesota.

Also I believe the voting is before the B1G championship game.

I hope it continues like that even with the debacle in Columbus this year.

I'm with you ... we had Florida this year (with no idea how bad they would be). You can't prepare for a team flat-lining. If you are an elite program, you should always play another OOC elite program.

There are two camps of logic on this.
1) it should go to the coach of the best team. Under this, many times Ohio State coaches have been screwed over, most recently 2014.

2) Exceeding expectation. This will always hurt Ohio State because they are always going to be considered one of the top teams in the conference so winning 10 games in a season is considered a let down, and a failure to meet their lofty expectations.

very well stated. fully agree.

Addendum to #1........ and a couple times under Tressel.........

What were the odds of Wisconsin going undefeated in the regular season? This is one of those cumulative odds scenarios. Favored in each individual game but not favored to go undefeated.

I would have given Wisconsin better odds to be undefeated at this point than Michigan State 8-3.

They had a down year last year ... that's all. Like Meyer, D'antonio has his program running like a well oiled machine (Fuck, I wasn't going to say anything complimentary toward ohio state).

When it's going that good the coaches never win it.

It wasn't just that they had a down year last year. They lost a ton of upperclassmen, had a Bayloresque sexual assault scandal on campus in which players were kicked off the team, as well as going 3-9. I figured 5-6 wins this year with 7 being best case. Would have never picked them to beat or possibly even compete with Penn State or Michigan.

Mike Riley.
2017 will be, forever, remembered as the year that Mike Riley sparked the reconstruction and rebirth of the University of Nebraska football program as a power player in the world of FBS football.
His coaching experience, skills and dedication to his players culminated in a history making season, leading his team to heights not seen in Lincoln since the 1950's.

I’m sure Tressel did get screwed over but I was too lazy to look it up.

I would say they got every year other than 2014 right between 2016 and 2010. 2011 may have been a stretch with Hoke but I can see the logic behind it.
2016 - Franklin PSU & Chryst UW both 11-2
2015 - Ferentz Iowa 12-2. Has his team undefeated in the regular season
2014 - Kill Minnesota 8-5
2013 - Dantonio MSU 13-1. Beat a great Ohio State in the CCG
2012 - OBrien PSU 8-4. Has no right getting a team that was trying to recover from Sandusky to do that.
2011 - Hoke UM 11-2. Won a BCS bowl game when little gave him a shot
2010 - Dantonio 11-2. Won a share of the Big Ten title, beat Wisconsin. No one saw that coming.

Chryst being tied for the title last year may hurt him this year because some people will not want to see someone win two years in a row.

Do you suddenly feel prone to physical violence combined with an extreme attraction to your sister and mother since donning that Ohio State avi?

I have a splitting headache right now and the picnic table outside my office is looking mighty purty.

He has the same attraction for his sister and mother that the rest of us Buckeyes have for his sister and mother.

Tressel won a national COY in 2002 (Bear Bryant) but couldn't win the B10 COY lol

How can anybody not vote for Fitzgerald?

He's does more with less than any of the others.

Meyer, Harbaugh, the others...they wouldn't win 5 games with Northwestern talent.

The issue with your statement is that if Meyer or Harbaugh were at Northwestern they would bring in more talent. Meyer has won every single place he has gone so I'm not sure how you could definitively say he wouldn't win at "X" school

Meyer would. Harbs would have more sleepovers and bad QBs.

Northwestern is a different animal than most schools because they don’t give a fuck about football. If you don’t qualify to get accepted as a student, they don’t bend to let the dumbasses in like Michigan, Ohio State, or 123 of the other FBS programs do.

Harbaugh coached at Stanford. Can't imagine they are much different than Northwestern as far as tough standards. I'm confident Meyer could find players to compete and win even with stricter academic standards. He wouldn't win national championships but to say he couldn't win 5 games is a bit ridiculous.

It’s funny how 45% of the Wisconsin votes are Wisconsin fans.

I’m not saying Urban couldn’t win 5 games but he would find it difficult to compete for conference championships is not a stretch to say. He would probably be more consistent than Fitzgerald is, but I don’t see his ceiling being that much higher.

Harbaugh was able to do special things with Andrew Luck as his quarterback but he has not been able to come remotely close to repeating that sort of success at a program that is a thousand times easier to recruit than Stanford was back then. Until he is able to actually develop a quarterback he recruited, I will remain skeptical and give more of the credit to Andrew Luck’s naturals ability over Harbaugg’s Coaching ability.
