And we might play Minor this year... I was pretty confident he would redshirt, but I think I like this "play them early" approach.

I agree.

Leal was not an exciting prospect during his last few showings. QB is a position of immediate and desperate need, and we don't need a QB controversy going on.

On TKP, a contributor said he was able to watch about 15 minutes of practice yesterday and Brewer took all of the snaps in that time with the 1s. He said he was really good, made all the throws, looked off the safeties and had the 2 picks. The Fuller INT was a jumping 1 handed grab that not many players can make otherwise it was a completion on a deep out. (Video is up on TKP)

:L

Maybe Teller can play some 2nd team tackle if needed? :noidea:

And if that TKP commenter is right, my guess is Brewer is the guy. Why else would he be getting that many snaps with the 1s if the competition were that open?

+Edmunds, JC, and Caleb?

I am glad the staff is moving toward playing our best guys, but I wonder how this is going to work? Time to move on from Coleman and Caleb? :noidea:

Caleb maybe, but I don't see JC going anywhere. Shane may be his biggest fan.

I don't expect McMillian to get any RB carries this year. I believe Shane's talking about special teams there.

I expected Edmunds, JC, and one of the freshman to get carries this year. That is looking like Shai, so far. I can understand McMillian getting in on ST, but it looks like that may be they only contribution Caleb makes is ST, as well.

Unfortunately I think the train has pulled out for Caleb. Coleman should defineyy be a situational player (S much as I like him).

I have to respectfully disagree on the redshirt RB situation turkey. I think most our most recent top notch RBs (with the exception of Evans) have left early after only 1 or 2 seasons as the guy. With RBs having such a short shelf life, odds are that if they are as good as we think they will be, at least one of Juice or Shai will leave before their senior season... Maybe both?

We just have to keep recruiting that position well. I am sure next year we will take at least a couple.

So good to hear that about Seth Dooley. Also sounds like Woody Baron is healthy enough to play instead of redshirting. I feel slightly better about d-line depth now. My biggest worry.

one of my biggest worries too ... but i'm not liking the feeling that i'm getting about the QB situation .. the fact that Leal is really in the competition is telling at this point. Unless the coaches are playing little pre-season games. i'd still expect brewer to get the nod by the end of this week.

and it sounds like Shai and Juice may be the next great RB tandem. I feel like JC's role will continue to diminish (unfortunately for him) and if Joel Caleb sticks around at this point, I'd be shocked. They need to get him involved and move him to D asap.

This is welcome news. Very glad to hear Baron is on the mend and going to be able to play this year. Lets these young guys develop before they're thrown into the fie. Our D should be better both now and in the future for it.
