Agreed. I had an argument with a guy over at Zig's board about the value of Hosmer's upcoming contract. I said he could go for 9 years/$234 million. I was told I was nuts. I probably am, but not about this. The salary structure has escalated again. There's still a lot of TV revenue money still out there and currently burning holes in owner's wallets.

That would be horrendous

Thankfully the Yankees are all set for the next decade without those horrible contracts

My mind spits with an enormous kickback.

Well 2015/2016 was close between the two. And Machado is 6.5 years younger.

there's a very good chance he'll have a better career, but O's fans were saying he was better in 2015/2016. Donaldson's wRC+ both those years was about 20 points higher. Machado may have had the better glove, but I don't think that closes the gap in offense. Donaldson was worth 1+ more WAR both years (Fangraphs).

it's funny because everyone talks about Hosmer, but Martinez actually has a track record of being an elite hitter. Hosmer's having his best season offensively and it still pales in comparison to anything J.D. Martinez has done over the last four years.

Yep, I agree. Hosmer may get more money because he is younger, he's defensively elite, and he's never hurt. JD has missed significant time in three of the last four years (120+ games total). What makes Hosmer unique is that he is a smart hitter who adapts to his environment. Not too many players like that anymore in this era of all-or-nothing free swingers. KC is not a good park for a power hitter. But when playing at US Cellular, he homers at a pace that would net 38 homeruns over 162 games. So, he has the ability to apply his hitting skill set to any ballpark.

He's also a Boras client and you know Boras is going to the money. He almost always does.

If Greg Bird and/or Tyler Austin are your idea of being set at first base then, well, you're delusional. Sorry bro.

Greg Bird will be a star. Don't let yourself get too caught up in the horrendous first couple of months when he played with a broken bone in his foot

What I won't get caught up in is your ongoing overzealous hype of this guy. He sucks.
