"I'm not going to give him any kind of excuse," Riley said. "But (Whiteside's) season started with an injury, and all year long there was a dilemma of some kind."

"By the time we got to the playoffs, I don't think he was ready," Riley said Monday, six days after the Heat were eliminated by the Sixers in five games. "He wasn't in great shape. He wasn't fully conditioned for a playoff battle mentally. He and we got our heads handed to us."

So- which is it? Was he not in great shape and mentally weak because hes just generally not in great shape and mentally weak or because of an injury, or, as I am prone to think, little bit of A, little bit of B?

Tyson Chandler's expiring deal, TJ Warren and a 2nd round pick would be a great haul. Prob more than could be expected

We’ll prob never know.
The Heat is always vague on injury details.
Whatever it was, he wasn’t himself in the playoffs.
However, over the last couple of seasons, he’s shown he can hold his own against any C.
That few game sample size came at the worst of times, but doesn’t change my opinion on him.

I'd rather have Kevon Looney than Tristan Thompson or Hassan Whiteside.

So tristan is the better player because he has 'heart'?

If he cared that much he wouldn't have accepted a $82m contract that's pretty much crippled the cavs' salary cap.

Unless you think that $16m a year for 6ppg and 6rpg has actually 'helped' the team?

LOL yeah players that care a lot shouldn't take money they are offered.

I'd rather have Josh Richardson over anyone not named Lebron or Kevin Love on the Cavs.

Yeah but that's not just Melo. I have no problem with guys maxing their income. If they want to take a little less to help a team fine, but it's really dumb to expect a guy to take half of what he's offered or something. If a dumbass owner throws way too much money at you, you should take it.

I agree.
My issue is with players who sign a contract, then bitch about it during the middle.
Some players over perform, some under perform.
That's sports.

one of my posts from well over a year ago---- how prophetic.....as usual #timevindicates

you think you can win anything if a quarter of your payroll is tied up in Hassan Whiteside? i sure dont. Even though- yes personally- Whiteside isnt as good as deandre or Gobert, etc....but - why would ANY team commit a quarter of their payroll to a center that cant shoot, cant pass, and cant defend the pick and roll?

right away you are already behind the 8 ball and better be perfect with the rest of your cap space.

spend your cap on wings and guys that can play multiple positions, and that can pass, spread the floor, shoot the 3.....

not guys that afraid/too slow to leave the paint to guard a pick and roll.

Maybe ask any of at least 5 teams that offered him a max?

Who might want Heat center Whiteside?

Jackson cited others that could have an interest in Whiteside, such as the Clippers, should they lose center DeAndre Jordan.

That’s not all.

“Perhaps Washington, if the Heat could convince the Wizards to flip Whiteside for Marcin Gortat, who has one year left at $13.6 million, and other expiring contracts,” Jackson wrote.

According to several sources, the Portland Trail Blazers and Dallas Mavericks are two more with an eye on Whiteside … but according to those same sources, that contract is an issue.

“His problems at the end of the year (in Miami) make him almost untouchable,” one source said. “The Heat may be stuck with him and that bad contract for the next two years.”

If they move Whiteside they will have to take back some bad money like Evan Turner or something I would think......

Too bad they didnt trade him last offseason- would have been easier to deal before he shit all over himself this year.

This offseason is going to be crazy.

I cant remember an offeason where so many potential stars might move--- George, Kawhi, Cousins, LeBron etc...that def. does not happen often.

.

Too bad the cavs couldn't have gotten rid of that Thompson contract. There would have almost been a chance lebron could have stayed in cleveland then.

Last year the following stars moved: Irving, Hayward, Butler, George, Paul, and Melo (ok lol but still)

It's becoming the norm

The Cavs have a ton of bad contracts. Not just Thompson. They have over $100 million committed for next season not counting James.

Thompson is not the reason they are in this spot either. 2 years ago when faced with the decision to resign him, they didn't have any other comparable alternatives. They could have paid Thompson his 18 million, or they could have let him walk and got the best available player for the MLE. They were over the cap already when they gave Thompson his contract.

Now, they are still over and have $145 million committed to Hill, Thompson, Smith, Korver and Clarkson over the next 2 years.

That is pretty dire.

yah once they had no chance at clearing cap room and signing an FA why half ass it?

what they did though that was smart was lineup so that most of these contracts are gone 2 years from now.

if LeBron is here- or an FA two years from now- the Cavs could have some big time options but have ot pretty much ride out this team until then besides the brooklyn pick as a trade asset.
