Not a problem if you're concerned, i wish he was 290 myself. :-)

That said, he performed on the field and his tape must've proved he could do it, and do it consistently. We'll see how he does even at 273? If he is getting 'stoned' at the LOS, then your concern will be legit.

As long as we fans put it in rookie perspective, and not expect miracles right off the bat. Plus realize D-linemen aren't normally the ones with sacks, but we do want pressure.
2017 NFL draft grades

This guy thought the Niners had the third best draft of all the teams.

I saw him more as a 4-3 DE.

Not that these ratings matter much, but did they factor in extra 2018 picks? Doesn't look like it.

Everyone is picking on Beathard so i ask again, if we drafted the SAME players but Beathard was the 6th rounder, would we be "a'ight"? I'd think very a'ight!

If i want to be nit-picky, i'm wondering if Besham should've been the pick, vice trading into 2018? We'll see how he does?

Well that was an A+ draft maybe a A- because we traded up for a QB that most said would be un drafted or 7th rd pick. Besides that we added a lot of talent. The best Part is We got 2 Top 5 players in the draft. I have no clue how We ended up with Foster. I was at a 49ers draft party and we were all going crazy. We all stayed because we thought 49ers were going to move back in. Thank god we stayed. What a Great 1st rd. Talk about a Young Defense with a lot of talent. We still need a Top Pass Rusher but overall D should be fun to watch.

isn't that what we run now, a 4-3?
yes. The issue is Foster is a 3-4 LB. Where does Foster Play. Bowman will play MLB. Ray Ray on the outside and then we signed a MLB and now foster. Plus don't forget Lynch who will now play some DE in the 4-3. We have options.

In my opinion, Beathard was a wasted pick wherever we might have taken him. He is not a starting NFL QB, nor do I see anything in him that leads me to believe he ever will be..

I don't think so. We always had two inside linebackers. We will run a 4-3 this year and I saw Thomas as a DE in that defense, not someone in the middle as you suggested.

That's fine I'm not sure Thomas will be what people hope he is but I'll take a good player that helps the team in the very least.
I agree I don't see a great player in Thomas but I think he will be a helpful player and a good player. He will help this defense.

We still need a pass rusher. I think Buckner is going to be a stud and I think Foster will be a stud.

I didn't suggest Thomas in the middle, where did that come from?!

i will have to look it up again, but this is my understanding of the four linemen:

LDE (5T) = Thomas

NT = Mitchell

DT (3T) = Buckner

Leo = Lynch

The three LB's would be:

SAM (strong side or TE side)= Brooks

Mike (takes on the blocks) = Bowman

Will (free to roam sideline to sideline, making tackles) = Foster

Not to say these are the starters for sure, but to illustrate i did NOT have Thomas in the middle. I expect they will rotate the linemen AND move them around on 'obvious' passing downs.

BTW - i say we run a 4-3 now, and your reply was "i don't think so"?! Then you go on to say we will run a 4-3???

Ok, no problem here. We'll see how this goes, keeping in mind Shannahan likes certain traits for HIS scheme.

I like the idea of developing a 3rd QB, cause of the importance of that position. Doesn't have to be a Round 3 pick i agree, but we should have someone in development. I thought for sure Peterman, but who am i to think otherwise?

It came from your statement that Thomas could push the pocket from the middle. You said something about Brady always being able to step up and throw and Thomas from the inside could prevent that.

From this quote of yours:
""He is a good run defender but more importantly, can improve our inside pressure. Today's NFL have and will continue to have, top pocket passers. Unless you can disrupt them, the quick release guys like Brady, will pick you apart.""

oh ok, that was for obvious passing downs, not for base defense. i would hope they mix them up on obvious passing downs.

inside pressure refers to pressure from a defensive linemen, as opposed to pressure from an OLB. An OLB is pressure from the outside (Edges).

In a 4-3, outside pressure comes from the DEs.
