Apparently NE has given RFA RB Mike Gillislee an offer sheet for $6.4M for two years with $4M in the first year. If Buffalo doesn't match NE gives up a 5th round pick this year. Bye Bye LG. Thanks for what you did while here.

26 yo, 5'-11", 208. Seems a little light to be a featured power back? He won't be asked to carry the ball 25x a game so maybe that is ok. Not much of a receiver but NE doesn't need another receiving back. He does hold onto the ball, only 2 fumbles in over 900 posessions.

NE quickly becoming Buffalo South.

Thoughts?

I wonder what LG was holding out for?

Correction he's had over 160 possessions. Still pretty good. A fumble every 80 possessions? Can NE make him a returner? Please no more DA or JE back there.

Still no power back....

I don't see $6.4 there but...

Whatever. In Bill I trust.

According to Mike Giardi, Gillislee has been working out hard this off season and is a rock solid 219 lbs.

Because of his paycheck, he will be the #1 running back, but will have to earn it.

Giardi is also reporting that there are indications that the Bills will NOT match the Patriots offer, so Gillislee will be a Patriot pretty quick.

Actually all 4 RB can catch the ball. Agree with BigKen, that is RB #1 money. I can see him putting up some damn good numbers here.

Not sure I agree, he may not be a power back by definition but he darn sure runs like one IMO. I watch a lot of him in college and what I could of his pro games, he may not be 235 to 250 but he runs with authority.

I'm a little shocked just seeing the RB's who are still on the market that won't cost the Patriots a draft pick. Throw in this being one of the deepest RB drafts in recent history to then give up a draft pick to pay one pretty good money.

And what? I didn't say it was a bad move by any means as I do think Gillislee has plenty of talent. I just was shocked with the guys on the market that won't cost a draft pick that they wouldn't just get one of those guys.

Well that is what I was trying to determine your post didn't make that clear to me, it may be a reading comp issue on my end too. BB and the Pats are very much about more then just getting a talented guy, they like guy's that show incredible effort, that accept and understand roles, that fit a specific facet of the game they are targeting, high football IQ is also a must. If BB see's those traits in a player he knows, has seen play and is already proven he will do that all day. And more than likely you may not get that in round 5.

Understand. I guess I view it more as there are guys on the market right now that are known as those hard workers, smart, and have proven it on the field. Jamaal Charles and AP are both known for those things. Yes they are older veterans that have been injury prone so maybe that played into the Patriots not wanting them over trading a pick for Gillislee. And right now we have no clue how those interviews went with those FA's for the Pats or any team. Maybe AP is wanting way more than that kind of money or teams do view him as a bit washed up. Hard to tell. And like I said I like Gillislee as a player just one of the more interesting moves lately that I have seen.

Good points. On the other hand.......

Peterson.......Injuries and attitude are negatives. Not a great locker room guy. Most important, Johnathan Kraft wants nothing to do with him.

Charles........Injuries and age. Things take their toll and one must ask, is this a chance I want to take with money and a chance that he might go down in the 7th or 8th game for the season?

Blount.........I've had this guy in the stable for the past couple years. He gave me 1100 yards and 18 TDs last year. I've made two offers this year and he wants more. He has problems breking the line of scrimmage and began hesitating and getting hit at the line or behind.

Draft...........Are there any guarantees out there who are NFL ready and tested?

With Gillislee, the Patriots know what he can do and must have a plan for exactly how they will use him if the Bills let him go. We should know by Friday.

I think injuries and age had a lot to do with AP and Charles perhaps $ as well. I am in favor of and would not be surprised if the Pats try to run the ball more. Not a lot more but more, make Ds commit to the run and TB takes less hits, this being said I think they targeted a guy that has shown the ability to run at this level and has not been to beaten up. He and White could be a real nice combination. I wasn't an advocate of the of the Burkhead signing I just don't see where he adds anything I hope this works out as I feel he is a better option.

Can you link this for me?

Charles is not a power back and thats what the Pats were looking for.

Nope. Just that several TV media people like Tom Curran and Mike Giardi have repeated over the last month. The biggest issue is that Johnathan Kraft, President of Patriots Football Operation doesn't want him anywhere near Gillette unless he an opponent.

I was hoping for this. Bills are $10M under the cap. If they match...that leaves them with $6M. Enjoy your 5th round pick.

Welcome to the Champion Patriots Gillislee.

Would be more like 8M...he's already on their cap for 1.8 for his RFA tender

In BB we trust. He sees something in him. He holds onto the ball a huge requirement for BB. I was puzzled as well with the Burkheart signing? Maybe BB is working on a trade none of us know about with Lewis? Hate to see him go. Gillislee likely becomes a quality player in NE. It will be interesting to see if Blount signs with anyone and if he does what kind of year/2 years he has?
