Frankie Corrado just doubled his seasons NHL games played today.

Must still think he is in Toronto since he was a minus 1 against the Sabres.

Hey, he was a nice even 0 in Toronto. You guys broke him, not the 17 months in the press box!

Wait, 5 goals on 15 shots?

Chicago's goalie did not get the team tank memo

Welp, the Jackets looked like hot garbage and we might have lost Bjorky. But at least the Leafs were kind enough to give the Jackets an extra 1:50 on a major power play by not putting anyone in the box.

Not that the Jackets did anything with it, mind you, but it was nice of the Leafs to try and help.

Congrats on the win, Leafuses.

If it were pretty much any other Leaf coach over the last 20 years ago we'd be reading from Steve Simmons about how unprofessional it was, with a dash of "how does someone get to be a coach at that level and make that mistake"? But no one will say a thing about it.

(Note that I'm not suggesting that's the appropriate response here, just speculating about the double standard. I've actually always wondered why coaches in children's games never try it, seems like it would be more valuable there than in the NHL where there are always full benches to select from anyway. )

I've had to leave the penalty box empty a couple of times in beer league with a short bench (we used to have a lot of fights in one league).
Tried to put a guy in the box for the last minute or so. Never got caught short, that I can recall.

Yep, beer league is another place where it might be a good strategy with a short bench.

I'd also actually never read the rule and mistakenly thought that not having a man in the box at the end of the PP led to a subsequent 2 minute bench minor (it's also possible that this differs from league to league I suppose). If that's not the case then this seems like an even better gamble, especially in men's league where you don't get an automatic penalty for shooting the puck over the glass and off the windows of the bar.

Babcock gets the bowl of shit on this one but honestly, with assistants on the bench and everything, nobody thought to bring this up? That's pretty bad on everyone there and they're lucky as shit they didn't lose (it took the Jackets 4 minutes to even muster a SOG).

To be fair, the morning radio guys, what little I could tolerate from them before switching to the all-Britney station, weren't easy on him.

Also, he caught hell in the media after that disaster of a west coast trip and how he used his goalies. He's heard it from the "MSM" when he's earned it.

Thank Torts on our behalf for resting Bob.

On the flip, the Rangers blowing it vs. NYI last night didn't do the Leafs any favours. Hopefully the Pens get them tomorrow but that B's-Isles game on Saturday turning into a 3 pt game could make things very tight.

To Babs' credit, he did go up and down the bench telling the players it was his fault afterward.

Yeah, a lot of people had a hand in it, but he took accountability.

I missed the first period of the TOR-CBJ game. Turned it on at the start of the second, 2-0 Leafs, yay. Watched about 5 minutes and it was 2-2 :mad2:. Thoroughly disgusted, I switched to Full House reruns. Checked in around 11 pm to see the entirely expected result. As is typical of all delusional Leaf fans, I am convinced my watching has a complete negative correlation to the outcome. I may not watch them again this season.

/OK I switched to the NYR-NYI game. Better to listen to Pierre then to jinx my team.

Wrong on both accounts.

So, this happened in the game after you tuned out. Big topic locally, as you would imagine.

Polak got a five (Graciously extended to a 7) and a game for the hit. Polak has a hearing with the DoPeS today.

Don't know his history, but he made no attempt at all to avoid the hit or play the puck and he had numbers in his face the whole time he rode Bjorky to the glass. Gotta be something, right? 2?

No word on Bjorkstrand, but rumo(u)r is he spent a long time in the quiet room last night. He was out before he hit the ice, so it looked really bad.

I dunno. Not a good hit. May be worth a game or two, may not be. He's a big guy but I don't think he's been suspended or had any issues before so that may play a part.

Anyway, they had better get on it today because they play tonight and if he's going to miss any games one of them might as well be one against the Devils. He's been playing well, want him back for the games vs. teams they usually struggle with in Buffalo and Florida.

Yeah, I don't remember his name as being a problem before. I've seen a lot of people saying it should be nothing because Bjorkstrand turned. And he did, but Polak was riding him to the boards no matter what. The only thing the turn changed was which side of his face Bjorkstrand was bleeding from.

Thanks @forty_three for posting. I saw some comments about this, but had not seen the footage.

Looked like the Bjorkstrand player had the puck and Polak drove him into the boards. As @Bloody Brian Burke said above, sure a game or two suspension.

Personally, I think this should be more of a grey/gray area. A small part of the responsibility should be borne by Bjorkstrand. He does keep his back to the play (and thus face to the boards) and does crouch down. Players should not put themselves in that kind of position. The way the rules are enforced today, it makes it difficult for the defensive team. You can't hit him, and if you "just" slow him down you will probably get a holding penalty. Yes, I know he will get suspended, I would prefer the rules be loosened a bit here.
