....and the parade of quality coaches turning the 49ers HC position down continues. Surely no one is surprised.

He is the only one I know of that turned the position down. Not sure they really offered it to anyone else yet.

That parade is going to get very long before they find a quality coach who will take the job. My guess is they are going to resort to some boob who is all they can get and they'll put on a big show saying "This is the guy we wanted all along".

The Front Office has put itself in a difficult situation. They interviewed a couple of others earlier but have taken the risky strategy of waiting through the playoffs for one of the coaches. All of the other teams with vacancies decided not to wait and hired coaches who were available right away. If the 49ers get Shanahan, then their strategy paid off, if not then they are in trouble. They are currently paying off two head coaches and a GM who is no longer on the team so whoever they decide to hire is going to be on the team for at least a couple of years. They have to do everything possible to get Shanahan now. Cable would be a disaster. It is obvious just from fan reaction that Cable would be very unpopular with the fanbase. Add to that Cable has assault issues in his past which be a PR mess. They probably would have to open this whole process up and there isn't much of a pool to pull from at this date.

Shanahan does not excite me at all. Cable would be an absolute disaster.

I think Shanahan is as good as anyone out there. I don't see anyone out there who they could realistically get who is any better. I would probably take Shanahan over Josh McDaniels. I have more question marks with him

the question we have to ask ourselves is this...........if i were Jed, would i have already hired someone by now? If your answer is yes, please post the name just for my own interest?

If your answer is no, then you shouldn't be laying it on Jed now.

My answer is no because i'd be making my best effort to get the best HC i can. I can't control how long they remain in the play-offs, and i can't control McDaniel's reasons for remaining. I would NOT panic and sign a HC, only because i need to please anxious fans. I did not feel these other guys were the best candidates, so i didn't rush to sign.

Next, i also want a GM who will work WELL with that HC, so again you can't rush to sign a HC without getting a good GM on board. So on one hand you take your best shot and possibly lose your best combo's; but on the other you can't rush to sign someone you didn't like in the first place, AND then end up with a lesser combo.

Yes, this may well turn out bad, but i'm not faulting Jed for targeting the best candidates. You clear the slate so the best can start clean, not replace them with the next best guys.

Jed York and the organization put itself behind the 8-ball with this hire, and they had to. There was no way he could sell guys like Anthony Lynn or Vance Joseph to this fanbase, as the self-inflicted damage probably has zero chance in healing (unless one of these guys is the next Walsh in hiding or something)

He needs a guy with credibility and the two biggest fish in the pond by far were Shanahan and McDaniels, and in doing so, he had to roll the dice and hope that at least one will be available/want to come to SF while the minnows were picked off left and right. York did the right thing, and it still may cost him simply because of recent history.

Very well said. And they need to get this right. They aren't going to pay another coach not to coach so the next hire is going to be here awhile.

The question is can and will Jed do enough to land these people? Not going to be easy because it is pretty apparent by now there are front office issues that haven't been addressed with multiple reports coming out about candidate's reluctance to work for the 49ers

yes, he is doing the right thing by going after the best. It is harder to do after combining the simultaneous GM search, but you still go after the best. It may well end up bad but i'd rather he go after the best vice 'settling' for another "Tomsula".

He was my 2nd pick. I want shanahan. The guy has great game plans. His offense game planning is great. Now I know we have no where near the talent as the falcons but I think he can build this roster. I like what he does with his receivers and running backs.

If we end up with Cable Im going to flip. The only good thing about Cable is Bradley wants to be his DC.

i have no doubt Jed will pay the price in his new contract. He will also have to pay the price for all the Assistant Coaches. You don't clear the slate just to go 'half azzed'.

As far as Front Office issues, Baalke is gone so are you referring to Paraag? If not, what 'front office' issues remain? If you're referring to recent history, yes there is a track record, but what can Jed do about history at this point?

1 coach left and is he says no 49ers are back at square 1. LOL We might have to hire Shanahan father as a back up plan is his son turns it downs.

Imagine 10 Interviews and No Coach. LOL Just sad. I have a feeling Shanahan is going to say yes. This would be Big for 49ers. Only other coach I wanted was McDaniels.

That isn't what I was getting to. What I meant was how far is the FO willing to go to land Shanahan? Will the they give him the money and contract terms he is seeking? Will they give him some control over personnel? GM? All questions

Hell at this point it could be a father son combo for GM & HC respectively...should be interesting to see how this all shakes out...I'm guessing there is an unofficial agreement that has been reached, otherwise we could be in some pretty comical hot water...and by "comical" I mean it's so bad that it's actually funny...
