They had a $226MM opening day payroll and you need a link to say the Yankees spent a lot of money in 2016?

lolz

Well you, like many others, touted this fallacy that the Yankees aren't spending money.

So clearly, it is you that needs the link.

It's not a fair comparison. Just another way of comparing apples to oranges.

So while the amount of revenue a team generates has a very real effect on what a team can spend on their players, it is "not fair" to address the fact that the Yankees, based on their league-leading revenue, could spend more on their players than other teams?

Just forgot the comma. I will make sure to write more accurately since your grain cannot handle typos.

Wasn't the typo - I don't give a fuck about grammar on a chat site either. It's the fact that you are claiming that I said things that I didn't. I was wondering if maybe the reason you were having trouble was because you're ESL. Apparently not.

They're choosing not to spend money right now and have been for the last three years or so.

Hmmmm did you or did you no claim the Yankees aren't spending??

I did not. I said over the last three or so years, they haven't been going crazy in free agency. It's sort of a subtle difference, I guess, which is what led me to believe you could be ESL.

Did he do the Jason Heyward contract because he wanted a challenge?

My entire counterpoint on this thread has been that it seems to me the Yankees may have changed strategies based on reigning in their free agency spending over the last three years and have focused on acquiring prospects.

Now you're implying that I meant that the Yankees don't currently have a high payroll?

I owe you an apology. Clearly, you're not ESL. You're fucking retarded.

It was pretty obvious he's saying that they haven't been splurging on deals like they used to do. I mean, their 3 biggest salaries from 2016 (A-Rod, CC, Teixeira) were all from deals made 5+ years ago.

Those three represent more than 30% of their 2016 opening day payroll.

Nearly 50% was paid to players signed three or more years ago.

The strangest bit to me about this whole thing is the fact that an alleged Cardinals fan decided he needed to start a thread unabashedly fellating the Cubs' top exec.

Theo didn't have to acquire the BEST free agents every single year. He didn't have to break the luxury cap and get taxed in order to build a team that can compete. He won a championship with the 14th highest team payroll.

Fifth, not fourteenth.

If an exec's competence is measured on a comparison of his team's proximity to a championship and what they had to spend to get there, I'm pretty pumped about having Chris Antonetti in the Indians' front office. They gave the Cubs all they could handle while being outspent by 63% - and that's with 10% of the Indians' payroll on the disabled list.

It is pretty clear that Theo has surpassed Brian Cashman in being able to build a team. Theo has now taken 2 piss poor organizations who consistently gave up when faced with adversity and turned them into teams that have a winning culture. While Theo definitely spent some money to get there, he still did it the right way. The core of the Cubs were home grown talent. Guys they guilt from the ground up.

Congratulations Cubs fans.

NEWS FLASH!

$125 million in 2011, cut to $88 Million then back to $116 Million by 2016

I guess they forgot that part, 'eh Joe Buck?

Pure genius!
