I wonder if Montreal would still have the Expos if not for the 1994 strike. That Expos roster was loaded.

Forget world series, the M's haven't even won a pennant.
That's why they get my vote. Zero WS.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the Ms of the 90's. They were great to watch. But atleast the Padres have went.

I can't lump Cleveland and Philly in the group personally.

That may be true but most of us are not 8 or 9 decades old. I am a Phillies fan and I bash the ownership for bad decisions just like any fan but the truth is in my lifetime as a fan they have been very successful overall. (I guess I was born at the right time). I became a fan in 1976. Since then they have won the division 12 times been to the World Series 5 times and won a couple. That's not bad for 40 years when you consider how many teams there are. I'm sure the the 70 years prior to that sucked, but I was not around for that.

The question was worst team of all time. Not worst team of our life time. Yes the Phillies have been to the Series 5 times in the last 35 years, but they only went 2 times in the 76 series before that. That is why I stated they need to be in the discussion, but I don't believe anybody has said they would be their final answer. IMO the Phillies are in the discussion but the success they have had over the last 35 years puts them far enough ahead of the Indians and the two teams who have never won a league pennant in Seattle and Montreal/Washington.

Yeah, fans obviously place more weight on the recent history, but 35 years is a pretty big time period. It was only about 10 years ago that you saw an old Red Sox fan in the stands with a sign saying "Now I can die in peace" , but now a lot of Sox fans act like they have been there all along. Other than the Yankees and to some extetd the Cardinals most teams have gone through some extreme droughts so you need to enjoy it while your team is doing well. (Although the wild card and smaller divisions has made it so anyone has a chance now. Hell, I don't think the Marlins have ever won the division and they have 2 World Series wins).

They are a bit young, but the Rockies come to mind for me.

The Rockies are a horrible franchise with horrible fans. And as astonishing as this may sound, they're actually worse than the Padres with AJ Preller. THAT, my friends is how bad the Rockies are.

I grew up in Seattle(now live in HI), and the Mariners are the worst franchise in Baseball. I love them a lot (2nd only to the dodgers) but the M's are the worst of the worst. Being an M's fan is like dating a fat chick for 20 years who promises to lose weight but never does.

I didn't like the formula the guy used to rank the team, so I thought I would try my own.

(Wins*0.1 + Titles*10 + WS losses*5 + Championship round losses*3 + division round losses*2 + WC/Playin losses) / number of seasons

Yankees 11.95
Giants 9.67
Cardinals 9.62
Dodgers 9.46
Red Sox 9.11
Diamondbacks 9.02
A's 8.80
Blue Jays 8.71
Tigers 8.68
Royals 8.64
Angels 8.62
Pirates 8.58
Reds 8.52
Cubs 8.49
Mets 8.46
Braves 8.37
Indians 8.33
Marlins 8.32
White Sox 8.29
Astros 8.27
Rays 8.12
Twins 8.03
Orioles 7.98
Rangers 7.97
Brewers 7.85
Nationals 7.83
Rockies 7.82
Phillies 7.78
Padres 7.75
Mariners 7.71

BY my calculations I was wrong about the Indians, but not the Phillies.

In my life as a Phillies fan, the fat chick has actually slimmed down and looked down right hot at times, but it never lasts more than a couple years. And according to new information given by obxyankeesfan she must have been huge before I met her.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention 1993, where she lost a bunch of weight and I thought everything would be fine--but it turns out she was just off her meds for a while and immediately ballooned right back to where she was in the late 80's.

All in all, still better than my relationship with the 76ers though. I gave her a ring in '83 and she immediately became lazy and overweight. It's at the point now where she's not even trying, and not even hiding the fact that she's not trying.

Obviously, I'm not psyched about the state of the Indians' franchise, particularly from a historical perspective. However, I'm thirty-nine and a half years old, and since I've been able to drive myself to the ballpark, they've been far from the worst franchise.

I think it's also worth considering their financial limitations. It's been a while since I've worked the numbers so I'm just speculating here, but I'd guess that there aren't a lot of teams that have done more with less than the Indians have in, say, the last quarter century. By that measure, the Indians make the Mets look like babbling mongoloids.

The Indians are the only AL Central team that has never finished in the basement of the division.

I'd also say that prior to the Tigers' 2011-14 run where they spent a fuckton of money in an effort to take advantage of a historically weak division, they were a fucking joke for about twenty-five years.

This is kind of mind boggling, but the Tigers are only one AL Central basement finish behind the Royals.

Historically, the Phillies suck balls that smell like cheesesteak and mayo.

However, they had a nice run there that netted them a recent championship, so count your blessings.

As a fan of another historically shitty franchise, I'd suck some balls that smell like cheesesteak and mayo to witness a Tribe championship -- BUT, I would not make eye contact because that would be gay.

You forget the tigers making the ws in 2006 and having the best record in baseball in 87?

Also the tigers were above 500 in 07, 09, and at .500 in 2010... Hardly a joke. I would give you 1989-2005... But they were no where near bad for 25 years.

In half of those 25 seasons, they finished in the basement of the division or 2nd to last.

1986-2010

25 seasons
9 - 90+ loss seasons
4 - 100+ loss seasons
7 - last place divisional finishes
5 - 2nd to last place divisional
1,844-2,140

"but they had two playoff berths and finished above .500 a few times!"

They were a fucking joke before 2011.
