This wouldn't have bothered me so much if it weren't for this

Fight postponed over youth soccer fields to be used for Super Bowl 50

I'm sorry, this is about as close to stealing candy from a baby as there gets. A responsible organization would obviously cease and desist but everybody knows that the monstrosity that is the NFL is nothing but a bunch of bullies when it comes to local communities.

Fuck the NFL and fuck its Super Bowl. So now the area around the Super Bowl is San Francisco? I grew up maybe 5 miles from that site and lived in the city for 10 years after and you know what SF was good for? Meeting people from the east coast living in flats working the financial district. Just rename the team to the Santa Clara 49ers and call the location what it is. Santa Clara is a fine city. It's not big but it has character and there's a lot going on around it. Absolutely disgusting. That and the fact that they were breaking ground on some ridiculous attraction for a field that had a soccer tournament scheduled for. Yet another reason to not take the NFL seriously. They don't care about communities. They just want to pretty up some stage that they can make their bucks from.

I lived there for 10 years and I don't even remotely understand the nature of your beef.

I was kind of sad that I left before ever seeing a game in the new stadium and was tickled to death at the thought of not having to drive to the city for games when they first announced it. And I'm not even a 49'rs fan, I'm a Bears fan. While I've never been to a Bears game, I've gone to tons of 49'rs games.

I've never heard anyone in the south bay complain about the location change, everyone I knew was happy about it.

If I ever move back to the area, I'll be pretty happy with it. There are already tons of things to do in the city, what's wrong with the south bay getting something other than a card house? Do you for some reason enjoy having to drive to the city or Santa Cruz for entertainment? Because I never cared for it.

I'm having trouble following your point here, but I would be more than happy to see 'em change the name to the Santa Clara 49ers. SF is a dump anyway.

gohusk: I know the brakes should have been repaired.
Levi Stadium: But that doesn't help much after the fact.

The problem is in building a new stadium, the price tag is up around a Billion $ now. You gotta have public support, good ingress and egress for traffic and plenty of space. It's easy to believe they could get neither from San Francisco. I have no problem in locating the stadium where it makes the most sense as long as it is in the near region of the host city.

I'd prefer the current name than an Arte Moreno style "San Francisco 49ers of Santa Clara" amalgamation.

Ok, I read the article and I don't get the issue. As part of the NFL choosing a city, there has to be certain things made available. The city has to have convention space, hotel space, media space...and there is a LOT that goes into the agreements. It sounds like one of those things contractually agreed upon was the use of this soccer complex for the NFL. Now some kids are saying that it is unfair because they can't use it for the month or so that the NFL is in town? And you are taking issue with the NFL? They have a signed contract to use that facility, and have had it for probably 3 years when SFO was announced as the superbowl 50 site. I guarantee the owners of the soccer complex were alerted and probably a key part of the bidding process.

Now people want to demonize the NFL? The 49ers and the owners of this complex are the ones to blame. You can't tell someone "here, you can use this space" and then when they show up to use it demonize them for doing so. There is plenty of terrible crap the NFL does to SB cities, this isn't one of them.

So do we have to put New Jersey in front of the Giants and Jets, and Arlington in front of the Cowboys, and Maryland in front of the Redskins?

Yeah... NFL teams are basically brand names for most part.

Green Bay Packers... Lambeau Field itself is in Green Bay (barely) surrounded on 3 sides by Ashwaubenon. Practice field and Don Hutson Center are across Oneida Street in Ashwaubenon and new Titletown District will be across S. Ridge Road in Ashwaubenon.

SB was in Glendale, most festivities were in Phoenix & Scottsdale.
SB was in New Jersey, most of the festivities were in New York.

Whats the problem here?

I couldn't care less what you call the Niners, although I personally prefer the Whiners.

But I would say that calling them the San Francisco 49ers while they are playing in Santa Clara is really pushing the boundaries of common sense.

They don't need to call them the Santa Clara 49ers. But how bout a little respect for the larger than San Francisco city that is 10 minutes away?

Those dumb kids need to learn that soccer sucks anyway, might as well grow up and start enjoying a real sport now.

LOL! You can't do that to me! I actually watched Willie play at the stick! All I'm saying is that Santa Clara doesn't need to whore themselves out like this. It's a small community and everybody knows that the 49ers play there. It isn't a slight to San Francisco. It's about respecting the community that's hosting the game.

What exactly is your beef?

Fact.

From the article:
"The rest of the fields in Santa Clara aren't as adequate, and they're unsafe. The soccer field provides us with a safe field," 16-year-old Irina Quibelan said.
Waaaa!! Why don't the Earthquakes just let the little turds use the Avaya Stadium while the SB stuff is going on? It's just a few minutes away.

My favorite article was the one quoting the lead attorney for the soccer league who is, shockingly, one of the kids parents, complaining that it is causing irreparable damage to his 16 year old because college scouts won't travel the additional hour to the alternate field to see him play.

What about that goddamn Micah kid?

"I just love soccer, and I've played it such a long time. I just want to keep this field, and I've played on it for a long time," Micah said.
The little pecker is 8 years old! EIGHT!! He has no concept of what "a long time" means! He should be sent to live with Adrian Peterson for this week. That should straighten his ass out.

I don't understand. Am I supposed to be feeling bad for the poor citizens of Santa Clara?
