It's just one of those sticky situations where it's like, do we pay our own home grown guy or let someone else? And there's no guarantee saved money auto equals success by spending elsewhere. Look at the Lions.

Sometimes you just gotta pay the guys you have and not gamble that someone better will come along for cheaper. MCCoy ain't perfect, but he's one of the best players Tampa has drafted in a long time.

So the Lions would be in the same situation with Levy, right? I mean hind sight, if Levy is ruined, it was a bad deal. But based on production, before the injury, it was a great deal. They had to pay him and he had earned more than Lavonte David based on production but took a more team friendly deal. David is fully healthy and doesn't have much better numbers than Levy this season (he doesn't fit the system IMO). Every signing is a gamble, a sticky situation as you say, and I think Tampa lost the gamble on both just as the Lions are losing the gamble on Levy so far.

I don't think much of Levy. Just a guy for the first several years of his career, started playing well once we got Ansah in front of him then had his best year playing behind our once in a lifetime line. I would not have re-signed him until seeing him play all year this year.

I thought David got a much larger contract than Levy? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else.

Levy was a good signing his contract was cheap for his production. Levy would have been stupid to disclose his injury during negotiations and i'm pretty sure the team can't demand a physical for a contract extension so him being hurt really isn't on Mayhew. Hopefully he comes back healthy next year and the new staff puts a strong D-line in front of him so he can get back to producing.

Yea Bro most players take a few years to get acclimated to the NFL (or NBA, NHL, MLB or any other pro league in the entire world). I'm not exactly sure why you'd downgrade a 3rd round pick for taking a few years to develop because develop he did. Yea, he had a great line in front of him but he was stout against the run, he could cover most any tight end or running back, he was always around the ball, he fast and instinctive. He didn't lead the league (finished second I think) in interceptions AS A LINEBACKER because the line was so good. I can't agree with that. Over the past 2 years he was the best 4-3 WLB in the league and he didn't stumble into it.

And that was my point about David. Levy commanded a contract at least equal to what David got. David got 2 or 3 million more per year on average. They had no way to know Levy would get injured so the deal was an absolute steal by market value based on production.

So did I miss that everyone assumes Levy was hurt before he resigned? I ask because he went from full practice participant for weeks, playing in a couple of preseason games if I remember correctly to being shut down. Have I smoked out my memory and he was hobble all of camp or did he get hurt during camp?

My guess is he tore his labrum in his hip. Its an easy injury to hide as you can walk fine, but can not run full speed or cut much at all. Some tears dont require surgery if they are small enough and you dont do any extreme physical activity. For pro athletes though it usually does if they want to get back to what they were. Most weekend warriors and amateur athletes dont realize how much power comes from the hips.

You're a stupid fucking homer picking them to win 10 games, I'm stupid picking them to win 6. Is that what you want to hear?

They should match those 6 wins. Martha said they are going to start winning now

I'm not saying at all that McCoy isn't a top DT, just that it was insanely foolish to pay him as much as they did. He simply hasn't earned it. He's always hurt. He disappears for long stretches. He'll never reach his potential because he doesn't have that nasty streak a DT needs.

I never saw the love for McCoy either. Never seen a dominating stretches of games or anything.

Desperation signing from MM after he lost out on Suh. Then found out he bought damaged goods and told Caldwell to keep it hush hush.

Atleast he didn't extend Ngata and Tag Levy.

I figured that dumbfuck would do both before he finally got let loose.

Shoulda been fired the same hour Suh signed his deal in Miami.

I'd like to think athletes of all ages with any kind of competent coaches know that your power comes from your hips. This is especially true in football.

Interesting story here. Says Stafford never bought into Lombardi's offense.

Stafford never bought into Lions ex-OC Joe Lombardi - NFL.com

"Stafford never really bought in to offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi," Rapoport said. "He was essentially nursing a hangover from the loss of Scott Linehan, his preferred offensive coordinator. (Stafford and Lombardi) were never on the same page. The hope now is with new offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, that Stafford will get back to what he was doing two years ago."
