I think the window is closed on Calvin. He can win with an elite QB somewhere else, but he's done here. Hell, we might be a power run team next. Who knows. Half our O will be kaput.

I got the munchies. Gotta take a break. Good discussion.

And look at the talent on the offense. Lombardi did shit with it. But Tampa fucking Bay can put up 30 on Atlanta. What the fucking fuck?

This right here is why I just smile at some the shit Mike posts. You play 53 of top 1700 players in the world each week. Titans, Texans, Bucs, hell even the Lions this year can win any given Sunday.

I'm also thinking as the season keeps going, the Falcons defense balances out were it belongs.

No he didn't. You guys worship Levy, a guy whose never won a single award. George Johnson? You keep telling me how much Fairley sucked. So it can't be him. Mosley??

We got Tully back, got Jones back, added the mighty Ngata! Slay was worshipped around here, Ansah, both safeties are back.

The excuses are getting pathetic. First it was Lombardi, now it's injuries...

The reasons were posted before the season by me, Fog and Smitty. Few others. You picked them to win 10 games. Don't tell me now they lost more than Suh.

I don't reflect from being wrong Rob. I have said how they lost key players from last year. Haven't said anything about injuries. Haven't said nothing about it being Lombardi. Now if you want talk about what I've said, let's talk. You want to lump me in with others. Talk with them.

I'm still looking for these victories that Suh is worth? That I was told by some would put Miami over the top. I'm looking for a Jets last place finish. Keep telling people they don't understand the DT position because it's not their job to have big stats, yet keep preaching endlessly about how he lead all major categories. Which is it Rob? Stats matter or they don't. That's deflection.

I was wrong on 10 wins. Wrong on 10 for the Dolphins. Wrong on Wake leading the league in sacks. Wrong on the Dolphins making the playoffs. Wrong on defending Reiff and Waddle.

You had them winning six games. Six games Rob. That is nowhere near as dismal as it is at the moment. Not even you saw this coming. You saw middle of the pack. Not a number one pick.

I know how that really translates. Good night Rob. Keep you honest later. That's when we'll talk about how you weren't against Ngata, but now you knew it all along. Told us all.

You homers loved the Ngata pick up. I told you he'd suck. I've admitted being wrong bazillions of times. You're a stupid fucking homer picking them to win 10 games, I'm stupid picking them to win 6. Is that what you want to hear?

At the end of the year I'm gonna have your money and Mike's avatar. You can blabber on about Miami then.

I agree on the Falcons defense. My point was that Tampa isn't loaded with talent on offense. I like what the Raiders have been doing. What the Bills did before their rookie went down. The Titans before their rookie went down. The Lions have had shit for coaches on the offensive side of the ball since Mayhew took the reins. I'm ready for that to change. And I'm not sure why Caldwell is still the head coach. Finger pointing bastard.

I'm trying to warm up to this Ngata trade. I get it. Like I keep repeating, this is a win now regime with a very small window to keep their jobs. Makes zero sense to groom a 4th and 5th rounder if you're not here to groom them in 2 or 3 years. They're gambling. Trying to stay in the playoffs to keep their jobs after clearly promising ownership they'd retain Suh.

Will it work out for them? Idk but I can't blame them for trying.

Yep that said Ngata sucks.

I think the window is closed on Calvin. He can win with an elite QB somewhere else, but he's done here. Hell, we might be a power run team next. Who knows. Half our O will be kaput.

Calvin has always had elite skills, but he's never been an elite WR. (I can hear the howls) I can think of two losses off the top of my head that I place squarely on his shoulders because he didn't secure the ball. Elite WRs secure the ball in crunch time. Steve Smith Sr. was an elite WR. Hines Ward was an elite WR. Played to fucking win.

Calvin's contract will remind people why Mayhew is gone. It might prevent us from being able to trade him. It might be economically unfeasible to release him. And he's not worth what he's being paid. But I agree. The Lions need to part ways with him as soon as possible.

Tampa was also intelligent enough to retain their star DT. :-)

Ha! They paid top dollar for a big pussy. That boy is soft as cotton. Always hurt. Always saying he's a leader. If you are one, you don't have to remind people. He's a talented guy but he's not truly working out for them. Paying McCoy all that money was dumber than Miami paying Suh all that money.

Eight more games. He will be gone. IMO it has to do with not much left to be a HC. Sure you can promote Austin and then it's thin as shit on the defensive side also. I like keeping Caldwell, I feel it keeps the best chance of better draft spot.

Caldwell is still the coach number one because we need a coach to finish the season, we're already down 3. Number 2 because by all accounts the boss likes him, the players like him, and 1 season, 1 trip to the playoffs won't be overlooked. #3 because the next GM should be the one to fire him if he's going to be fired. Just prepare yourself, I'd say the odds are better than 50-50 in Caldwell's favor that he's the coach next year if he doesn't go 0for over the stretch. Which is possible from what we've seen but the schedule is a lot lighter than the first 8.

If they fired Caldwell, Gunther would be the guy. You don't promote Austin, who's never been an HC. IF you put Austin in and he does well, then the fan base is clamoring for him to get the job. If he doesn't do well, he must go also. If he's not given the opportunity, you can keep him if the next coach wants him. I think this may also be the reason White is the interim GM instead of the experienced Xanders. After the season, White must go. But the fairly new Xanders may get to stick around.

Suh is better but McCoy is a top DT. You just don't get better letting your top young draft picks walk. Now Tampa has a top 12 D and run D. If Winston is to grow, he needs a decent D backing him up.

I disagree about him being elite. You put Suh and Calvin on just about any other team in this league for 5 years and they blow what the Lions were able to accomplish w them out of the water. No one has done less with more than Mayhew.

I agree he has played with less fire than some of the other guys you mention. I remember the drop vs Tampa.

Gunther, Austin lol we have no one worthy of the HC spot. Caldwell is still HC cause Martha realizes no one can win this year with the garbage team Mayhew assembled.

I'm not saying at all that McCoy isn't a top DT, just that it was insanely foolish to pay him as much as they did. He simply hasn't earned it. He's always hurt. He disappears for long stretches. He'll never reach his potential because he doesn't have that nasty streak a DT needs. He had a lot of love over the last 3 seasons but some of that shine is starting to wear off with the fan base and talking heads in the area. The Bucs will regret paying him that much. I think they already may be. But I agree, you don't let your top young draft picks walk unless of course they ask for more money that they deserve, more money than you can afford, or most importantly if they simply don't want to play for you.

It's just one of those sticky situations where it's like, do we pay our own home grown guy or let someone else? And there's no guarantee saved money auto equals success by spending elsewhere. Look at the Lions.

Sometimes you just gotta pay the guys you have and not gamble that someone better will come along for cheaper. MCCoy ain't perfect, but he's one of the best players Tampa has drafted in a long time.
