Again, he won the FedEx Cup...
Again, he won't win a major with that mentality.

He's in a career where he'll get paid millions to swat at a little ball. Everybody is on the same playing field at every event. He didn't do well because he can't play the course as well as others. That's it.

Anything else anybody says is nothing more than defending prima donna crybaby behavior.

the best player over the 4 rounds will win. same as any other tournament.

for some reason, people are defending a handful of crybabies who feel entitled to throw tantrums on and off the course. it's revolting.

These guys want cookie cutter courses that are just like every other course and the second they see something out of the ordinary they freak out. You know what that makes for? Boring Sundays because everybody is going to stick their shots down the stretch on receptive fairways and greens.

You know why this course got the bid?

1. They want to get something going in this area because golf is actually big up here
2. They wanted a different looking course that's actually a real challenge so there isn't yet another major where the winner is 10+ under and basically coasts to the championship
3. They like the concept of the surface because it's more eco-friendly and you're going to start seeing more and more of it. Believe it or not, local communities are going to start to balk at all the water it takes to water the 200+ acre lawns so the pros don't bitch
4. It's a public course

The problem was the greens weren't put together well and they couldn't shut down the course to fix them because Pierce County spent a ton of money on this and didn't want to lose the greens fees, which is very understandable. Some of the greens are fine, some of them obviously aren't. Pebble Beach has been ragged on a few times when their greens weren't in good shape for big tournaments.

Like I've said, all the players have made their point. Now the guys who everybody knows are huge jackasses are just going and going because that's what they like to do.

To hell with ripping the course.

I'm gonna rip the coverage: it sucks.

A long laundry list of failures by the Fox crew. I know this is new to them, but come on...

I mean, just right now: split screen following Day as he walks from one hole to the next one. Why? To catch him stumbling and falling down?

awful

:L You're just making baseless claims about Horschel. Everyone is on the same playing field. Similar to a football game on astroturf or really long, thick grass. It's the same course/field, but it benefits some players (teams in the football example) moreso than others. It would be like if you had a course where there were so many divots in the fairway that the players that hit the fairway didn't have an advantage over players that missed the fairways. Everyone is on the same course, but it doesn't mean it doesn't give some players an advantage over others.

Here are my thoughts on the course.

I don't think this course is out of the running for hosting another US Open. It's a challenging course, not friendly to the average golfer, and not the type of courses that should be built for the average golfer. However, I think it's great for this type of event. Obviously this year the greens weren't up to USGA and the tour pros standards, but that's not permanent. If the greens were good, we'd be hearing very few complaints about the course. It's seems like a terrible location for spectators, in terms of the ropes being so far away, very little maneuverability, etc. but I don't think the USGA is worried about that because more of their revenue is coming from the television side anyway.

List all of them

is it necessary? They have gotten better as the tourney goes on, but still.

bad camera angles
not sticking with shots
camera losing the ball midflight
too many putts, not enough shots
first two days-more time spent watching talking heads instead of the golf
incorrectly identifying players
saying hole is so many yards, while at same time showing graphic listing it as much longer/shorter
not identifying hole
bad/absent scoring graphics
etc

just a bunch of stuff showing they are learning on the fly. But they've gotten better as it goes on. Today, the split screen for about five minutes following Jason Day around was, lazy.

I'll give you one for now. When Patrick Reed was one of the leaders on Saturday, Joe Buck was talking about Reeds issues in the past. (the bad stuff) Buck then introduced a guy on air in the booth ...

Buck: "We are now joined by so & so who has done some digging around Reeds past ...so what did you find out"?

This actually happened during a live telecast of a golf tournament.

Also, they have been taking some of the players after their round, handing them a microphone while standing in front of a TV monitor. They then make the player explain some of their shots as it replays on the screen

It just comes off as cheap having the golfer stand their with a big stupid microphone.

Billy Horschel won the FedEx cup last year. And shot 3 under today. And still complained. And made a valid point. Flukey, bad greens, makes everyone an average putter.

I was talking to someone who mentioned that bad greens takes the advantage away from good putters. But, that perfect greens takes the advantage away from good ball strikers. So, even though the greens are rough this course just favors better ball strikers more than better putters and the good putters shouldn't complain because most of the time the good putters have the advantage over ball strikers. I just thought this was an interesting way to look at it and thought i'd post it.

A good putter is going to keep at it and eventually get an edge. Pace has a lot to do with being a good putter and on a fast green with a lot of contour a bad putter is going to have problems.

There's a lot of things going on. Pin and tee placement, golfers not being familiar with the course, poor greens (nobody can deny that). But some low scores were put up this morning because guys were able to be aggressive with nothing to lose.

All this being said, guys are hitting tough shots and it's a tight tournament. These babies can cry all they want about how they want about how they want their courses pristine for them. If that's how this is supposed to be then just limit the tour to super-exclusive private clubs lined with million dollar mansions and take the public course out of the equation. More often than not when they put a public course in the mix there's nothing but complaining. Shit, at the private clubs at least half the members don't even golf to begin with. Look at Augusta's member list. How many times you think any of their members golf a year? 5 times maybe?
