Bad analogy. No Way on July 4 they were "top pair." They were queen high towards a flush looking at several pairs opposed. I was willing to fold. You were not and you caught the royal flush. I was wrong, but let's not revise history.

We were in first. Therefore, we had a weak top pair.

Anyway, in the past. I am just having fun talking about poker. :)

What if they now acquire Fister, Zobrist, and Prado? Are they punting then?

Having signed Peavy and acquired mcgehee, I wouldn't mind a slight overpay for Rasmus. I would give us a grade of C+ for the off-season then. They would then have some powder dry for July.

There is still Shields and/or Kang. This could still turn into a solid B+ or A-.

The Kang posting was supposed to end today. We should hear something soon. Although, with McGehee, I doubt that leaves room for Kang.

The McGehee trade also closes any potential for Mr. Mrs. Tony Parker.

Looks like we sent "two minor league arms" to Miami.

I have not heard who, but I could imagine something like Fleet and Buccardo...

I wasn't holding my breath on Eva's twin. Although one could hope, I give you credit for that.

I don't think getting McGehee precludes getting Kang, but I agree he's no longer necessary. But having Kang, McGehee, and Panik to split 2B and 3B with PH depth is not a bad position to be in, either.

It would be nice. It might actually increase the Giants interest in him since they would not have to depend on him playing at a starting level right of the gate.

I saw that GDP number, but it does not look like he has a history of it, so maybe it had more to do with some kind of team dynamic vs his skill set(??).

It's not like he's replacing Kenny lofton, though. We've done well with a GIDP machine at 3B the last few years.

How many guys do you need in a starting rotation? If they are still on Shields or Fister, they probably wouldn't have signed Peavy. I believe they will still go after a LF and/or 3B but it's hard to imagine they will sign another SP and bumping anyone out of the backend of rotation (Peavy, Hudson, Timmy) who all makes $12M+ per.

I'm leery of relying on Broken Timmy for a rotation spot.

I say this every week

SIGN MONCADA!!!!!! Screw Kang. Just throw our money at Moncada

I think the Giants will be in on him, but hi situation will be VERY interesting to watch unfold. He is an amateur FA, not a professional FA. Totally different set of rules.

Hopefully Blackburn, Crick or Black (or someone else) is ready by mid season to relieve him of duty. I think that would be the Giants hope as well.

On Casey McGehee is rumored to be on his way to SF...

Marlins, Giants "Closing In" On McGehee Trade

Casey McGehee Statistics and History | Baseball-Reference.com

6:29pm: Two minor-league arms are expected to make up the return, MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro tweets.

5:45pm: McGehee will indeed be headed to San Francisco, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets.

5:37pm: Reliever Hunter Strickland would not be a part of the return to Miami if a deal is struck, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. Earlier, Rosenthal noted that Strickland was a name under consideration.

5:04pm: The Marlins and Giants are closing in on a deal that would send third baseman Casey McGehee to San Francisco, Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun-Sentinel reports on Twitter. Minor league pitching would likely head back to Miami in the deal.
With Martin Prado headed to the Fish via trade, McGehee is obviously expendable. He had a solid return season last year for Miami, after playing one year in Japan. He slashed .287/.355/.357 over 691 plate appearances, ultimately checking in at about one or two wins above replacement, depending upon one’s formula of choice.
For the Giants, of course, McGehee would represent a short-term solution at a position vacated by Pablo Sandoval. He is projected by MLBTR and Matt Swartz to earn $3.5MM through arbitration this year, his final season of eligibility before reaching free agency.

I guess the Giants disagree with you since they offered even more than the Red Sox did I'm told.

As I read it, the Giants were not allowed to present a final bid, but they were willing to (but did not) go higher.
