Well did Reggie Bush receive benefits that were no allowed? That is a FACT and PROVEN. End of Story.

So fucking what!? There was no proof that Carroll or anyone on his staff knew about it. Coaches can't keep tabs on every single player, in every single moment of their lives. Reggie is the only one who deserved punishment in this situation, but the NCAA not only wrongly penalized the university, but the punishment was extreme, beyond comprehension.

Imagine if FSU were in the same exact position, and tell me the punishment would be fair. You can say it would be but you'd be lying your ass off. It was and still is bullshit.

So he received impermissible benefits mean "so fucking what"? That is why the sanctions came down and why everything started. Due to that one person. If I am correct they got USC for Lack of Institutional Control. That is why the sanctions were so hard.

As far as FSU you mean like the online music course that caused FSU to have to vacate every win which totaled 14 wins that those players played in? Yep that was fair. FSU lost scholarships(total of 12 over 4 years), wins, and was on probation for 4 years. Also they reduced scholarships for 10 sports. Not just football.

I'm not going to keep arguing with someone who compares apples to oranges and has his mind made up.

Agree to disagree.

I gave you facts that can be looked up. USC got busted so harshly because they were deemed to Lack Institutional Control due to 2 players receiving benefits that removed their amateur status. They also deemed that one of your coaches McNair lied about knowing that Reggie Bush received said benefits.

The sanctions for this were harsh, but look at other schools for smaller violations that were reported by the school and they were not that harsh. The harshest thing were the scholarship reductions. Not the vacated wins from 2 years, post season ban, or probation.

I gave FSU as an example with similar sanctions. If you do not like that I agree that both schools got hit and yes the coaches and school should have known about it. That is not my problem. And for god's sake FSU is MY TEAM and I agree that they broke the rules by playing ineligible players. Just as USC did.

Pete Carroll knew, let's get that out of the way. He was an idiot for allowing agents in the USC locker room and sidelines during USC games, especially New Era agents. Todd McNair has admitted to knowing Bush's involvement with New Era. Hell, Bush has even gone on record saying he thought Carroll knew about the house his parents were living in rent free. Reggie Bush is one fucking son of a bitch bringing these sanctions on USC. I hope the Trojans never let that fucker on the sidelines at their games.

Wrong. Bush's stepfather was involved with a wannabe agent. He and Lake (the wannabe) were trying to start their own sports representation agency and Bush's stepfather was supposed to deliver Reggie as their first client. That is why the impermissible benefits were provided for the Bush family.

Todd McNair never admitted anything and ii's looking like he's going to win his defamation lawsuit vs. the NCAA.

Where is your link that Bush said he thought Pete Carroll knew? I've never seen anything where Bush has done anything other than deny that anything happened. In fact, Bush never even testified before the NCAA.

The LOIC was because the NCAA found one violation on the basketball team and they also found that a women's tennis player improperly used a phone access card to call home.

The NCAA never proved that anyone at USC knew what the Bush family was doing. That is why is their findings they said "should have known".

Tim Floyd (the men's basketball coach at the time) was said to have given O.J. Mayo $1000. That, according to the NCAA, is a worse violation than the Bush family. Yet, the basketball team received a relative "slap on the wrist" when compared to what the football team got.

Pretty funny considering in 2007 the NCAA found 61 Florida State athletes guilty of academic fraud. To the point where 23 football players were banned from the bowl game. Oh but USC should have known ONE player had a secret deal with an agent but coaches at Florida State couldn't possibly know what 61 players were up to.
Fucking hypocrite.

I actually think USC got screwed. I am coming from a different angle though. NCAA never proved institutional involvement. Agent let a player's family live in a house. Later cases involving Oregon and Ohio State had head coaches caught red handed and the penalties were far less onerous. It one thing to have a rouge agent or booster to cause a violation, I think it is quite another to have a head coach involved.

They were found guilty, they were punished and Pete should worry about getting his free agents resigned so he can prove to the world that his team winning the Super Bowl wasn't a fluke....

Sitting in the weeds, biding my time. The last few years have been demoralizing but that light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.

I understand why the LOIC was used. That is the sole reason that USC got hit so hard whether someone agrees with the sanctions or not. The scholarship reductions were harsh, but the other sanctions were not out of line or out of the norm. Vacating wins when an ineligible player played is normal.

I know that OJ Mayo was the other major sports player and that no other football player was accused or named. I do no count the tennis player, but the NCAA does.

The NCAA is crap, but at the same time without another body to oversee college athletics what would college sport turn into? The highest bidder in cash and benefits.

I agree that the LOIC finding was why USC got hit so hard. I have no problem with the football team getting sanctioned, but what they got was ridiculous. Basically, they took violations in 2 other sports to get to LOIC just so they could justify harsh sanctions on the football team.

this is again my favorite part of this. NCAA could not prove anyone at the institution (football side) was involved, but LOIC was given. Following cases involved head coaches and LOIC was not given. That is something I can not understand.

I agree that their needs to be a governing body. However, I think their needs to be transparency and accountability with that governing body. The NCAA has no transparency and no accountability. They are in essence, the equivalent of having a police force that is also judge, jury and executioner.

Two reason I can't fully embrace CFB.

1. the end of the season became totally whacked when they started this National Champion BS (no I don't mean BCS)...the original bowl system with the conference ties truly was the best system for so-called student athletes...having a Sugarbowl, Rose, Cotton, etc. bowl champion really did work...but money, money, money became the ruler of the game.

2. being ruled by the dollar really ruined amateur athletics as we once knew it...institutions of higher learning basically sold out to TV...so...I don't blame one single kid for taking money or illegal benefits. Why? It's big business now, and at the end of the day, business is all about the dollar...always has been, always will be.

So to you one player doing some secret deal 200 miles away from USC (the mayo case was self punished and approved by the NCAA) and one female tennis player using a phone card to call home should produce harsh penalties but in FSUs case 61 athletes doing academic fraud ON CAMPUS is a lesser case .
One football player one tennis player= the most harshest penalties this side of SMU
61 athletes = not so much

I thought usc got hit so hard due to lack of cooperation?

No matter, they are pretty much neutered now. Thanks to emmert the days of them swingin their dick around are over. Now its basically a public works project leaching big salaries from cfb for doing shit, and being yes men.
