I hate that Canada lolly gagged their way into this tournament by barely beating scrubs and then Team USA decided to not show up when it mattered most

I didn't realize Canada got to choose their opponents in this tourney - Oh that's right, they didn't. Your beef is with the IIHF and how they rank teams.

No reason for you to respond to that ignorant remark.

Canada was the better team coming into the Olympic tournament, and remain the better team after the head to head.

Yeah, I didn't have to respond, but I should also add that teams like Norway and Latvia get fired up to play Canada (in essence, it's their gold medal game). If they have a hot goalie between the pipes (as Latvia did), they are a tough team to beat.

Problemo numero uno, Patrick Kane is the face of US Hockey.

As a Hawks fan, I can tell you right now, he's not a leader. He has great hands, and a high skill level, but nowhere near the heart and soul of the Blackhawks (Toews and Keith)

Edit: How was my Spanish? No bueno? Is it problemo or problema?

Brooks didn't tie up Benn, but if he had it would have been interference.

If Callahan had been in the right place, Backes would not have had to move out and the pass would have had to get through him and Orpik for Benn to tip it.

If you're gonna point a finger, and you really can't because it was a ridiculous tip by Benn, it was a mistake by Cally that opened that door.

Canada just made a play really what it comes down to, guys are out of position, and miss tie ups all the time.

Fucking livid over this outcome still.

Good game nonetheless, Canada. Thought we had some late magic in us like in 2010. Wasn't meant to be, good job. :suds:

Now we go for Bronze!

I think Cobiemonster said it.

Lol, not calling you out Cobie, you're a good poster, I just think Canada was better than us then, and now.

i saw it coming ... i saw the US giving canada lots of time and space to carry the puck if they didnt try and play some sort of system ... quick really kept them in it

smooth move by bylsma ... as the home team with last change :L ... not keeping JVR/Kessel away from the toews matchup

I totally missed this one today. Stupid work!

I bet people in Canadian offices can stop and watch the game and nobody would bat an eyelash. Not exactly the same in American offices, especially since I am one of only 2 hockey fans in my office out of like 30 people.

While he is the face, he doesn't necessarily need to be a leader. We've got guys to fill that role...I mean we've got Backes, Brown, and Callahan who are all captains of their NHL teams. Kessel and Kessler can set the tone from an energy standpoint. Kane is there for his skill, not his leadership, and I think that is okay.

Yep. Just like I said in the Women's gold game thread. Hockey is a game of inches and the best you can do is play hard enough to put the pressure on the other team to make the hard play to beat you. Canada made the plays in this game and that one. You don't get pissed, you tip your hat. USA certainly didn't hand this one to anyone.

I'm not trying to say Cally is 100% to blame. Yeah, he goofed. Bouwmeester made a phenomenal pass around Backes. If Calalhan was in position, that same great pass just goes by Callahan instead. Can't say whether having Backes in place behind Callahan would make a difference. Maybe the highlight reel shows the tip through three guys instead of two... Or Maybe Backes covers higher in the slot towards the opposite point. Maybe he moves to cover Perry.

Canada earned it. Benn delivered.

And Price was just incredible.

Agreed, and I think Orpik needs to recognize the play better too. But yeah, the series of events that flow from one small decision are interesting to analyze for sure.
