It will make me feel better when Sparty isn't the best team in MI anymore. Already feels like forever.

Two crippling (in regards to the player personnel) coaching/philosophy changes in 3 years time will do it. Hoke finally has the majority of his players aboard and there is reasonable depth. If there's no significant improvement in 2014 Hoke is gone. If there isn't a B1G championship run by 2015, Hoke is gone. Just my .04 on Coach Hoke.

I'll give Hoke credit. He went out and got himself a much better coach to help right the ship.

I actually feel like we'll get back to back W's over tOSU before we can say that about MSU next few years. We'll see. I'm really impressed with that D in EL. Then they took an O that looked like a HS team and turned them into Rose Bowl Champions in one season. MI should be humiliated.

I actually think Hoke still has another year unless we go 7-6 again. I think if he finishes with 8 or 9 wins he'll be in the spot that Bo Pelini is in at Nebraska.

The Long Con

In the strangest and most covert operation involving NCAA athletics, former MSU heach coach and MSU trustee, George Perles, hatched a plan as delicious as a slab of baby back ribs. His plan, which required many secret agents and deep knowledge of football coaching, was a plan to take down Michigan Football.

LSU 'hires' Nick Saban away from Michigan State at the end of the 1999 season. Michigan State hires Bobby Williams to be their head coach, only to 'run the program into the ground', all according to plan. Nick Saban goes all Miami Beach as a reward for his allegiance, then later ends up in Alabama...along with Bobby Williams, again all according to plan. Meanwhile, Michigan State 'hires' John L. Smith away from Louisville who adds a certain Doug Nussmeier to the staff. Louisville promotes Bobby Petrino to HC. Saban is part of the twenty person search committee at Michigan State to help find their new coach after JLS is relieved of duty...Saban suggests his former colleague, Mark Dantonio, is perfect for the next phase of the plan.

The Atlanta Falcons hire Petrino, but he leaves (according to plan) and goes to Arkansas. Petrino has to be dealt with, and is forced to resign after 'unfortunate circumstances'. Which clears JLS to become the head coach at Arkansas...growing the infiltration of the SEC. Meanwhile, Michigan State operatives down in Austin, start Saban to UT rumors, but really just want Charlie Strong to end up in Texas...he does.

Bobby Petrino now has the green light to head back to Louisville after being forced to cheat on his wife and almost die in a motor cycle 'accident'. All the while, Steve Sarkisian is forced to hire Doug Nussmeier, while at Washington, with the promise that he will soon be the head coach at USC.

Saban, after being allowed to win a couple National Championships is forced to hire Doug Nussmeier to his staff. Lane Kiffin is finally released from his duty of tanking USC's seasons, and is allowed to join Saban in Alabama if under one condition...that Brady Hoke finally completes the final circle by hiring Doug Nussmeier to Michigan.

Michigan State's long con of getting an insider has finally come to fruition. The mole has been planted. University of michigan football is breathing it's last breaths. Michigan football now is relying on a Michigan State Man to teach Michigan players how to be a Michigan Man. Ha...Doug is in place and he knows what his destiny is.

Shit, if he can develop AJ fucking McCarron, I can't wait to see what he does with talented QBs. Hoke! :suds:

That would be impressive to see. When is Michigan going to get a talented QB? You haven't had one of those since RR ran Ryan Mallett down to Arkansas. :suds:

As talented as Smoker and Stanton? :noidea:

I think Nuss will have a difficult time with our existing QBs and even more difficulties recruiting/developing QBs in the near future. :laugh3:

This was easily a good move for Michigan. The AL Borges offense was awful and he was unable to get through to Gardner about ball security. The fact Hoke was willing to go into next year with Borges as O Coordinator made most Michigan fans throw up in their mouths!

If Kiffin wasn't available Saban stays pat and Nuss stays at Bama. But timing is everything and Hoke, Saban, Kiffin, and Nuss all walk away from the situation feeling pretty good.

1. Michigan gets a Offensive guy that is an upgrade over Borges.

2. Saban gets an innovative guy in Kiffin that he likes.

3. Kiffin gets to rehab his tarnished image at a winning program.

The only loser is Borges.

A huge side not to this hire by Michigan is Nuss was a left handed QB. The same as Morris and being able to understand and grasp the changes the offense and receivers will need for a left handed QB is huge. Plus he has the NC rings and experience all nice little bonuses for a team looking to get back on track.

The B1G has been just awful that last 2 seasons and making this type of move really has no down side for UofM. Just getting rid of Borges was an upgrade even if Bobo the clown was named O Coordinator.

Bama though is taking a bigger risk IMO. Nuss was a proven commodity and a good recruiter. Saban has baggage and a reputation of coloring outside the lines. Big reward with Kiff but big risk as well.

As for AJ vs UofM QBs it's a what have you done for me situation. Morris was a very highly recruited QB and has worlds of talent but until you prove it potential is a 4 letter word.

You mean Drew Stanton who is still listed as a QB for the Arizona Cardinals? While Michigan has "offensive weapon" Denard Robinson, September Heisman Forcier, Threet, Sheridan?

Michigan State was not very talented before Kirk Cousins and haven't been very impressive since him at the QB position. We got very lucky when Kirk came to Michigan State. But again we are not a name brand like the Block M. The bar is and should be higher in Ann Arbor. If you have been happy with the QB skills of Gardner, Robinson, Forcier, Threet, and Sheridan then more power to you.

Morris may be a good quarterback but he is young and has some growing pains to still go through. He looked less than impressive his senior year in high school (battling sickness if I remember correctly) and got thrown into a bad situation for the BW3 Bowl.

Dude, you're looking pretty foolish with these statements in reference to Michigan QBs, and I know you're serious. Do you really want to compare Michigan QBs in the NFL to MSU QBs in the NFL (both past and present)? 'll go down that road with you if you really want me to. You won't enjoy it though... But that's great that Stanton is still backing QBs up. I have nothing against the guy.

Morris didn't look good because he contracted mono over the summer prior to his senior season. It's hard to "look impressive" while you're sick or not even on the football field. :L

Nope not happy at all like most Sparty fans with Maxwell. But Robinson, Forcier, and Gardner are all read option spread type QBs more suited to play the Rich Rod style of offense. Sheridan and Threet were depth guys like Bellomy. Bellomy by the way would have been the starter last year if not for the blown out knee IMO.

Morris was a 5 star recruit before his senior year and getting Mono. Spreight is a highly regarded kid that missed his junior season with an injury. So I would expect good QB play in the near future as long as these guys get the type of coaching they need.

Michigan has been one of the best recruiting teams the last 3 years. With those type of players coming in the team should be better. The problem is Hoke has not gotten these guys to lift their games and become program builders. I think Nuss will help remedy that problem.

Hopefully Jay Gruden can help Cousins become a serviceable back-up. With Cousins' 68.7% rating, there's nowhere to go but up.

As I have said multiple times. We didn't have much for quarterbacks ever. I have said many, many, many, many times that it will not be long til Michigan State is back to the middle of the pack of the Big Ten and Michigan will be back for fighting for conference championships. But Hoke will not be the guy who will lead you to that. But all of Michigan guys get your panties in a bunch if anyone suggestions you guys are not the greatest football team now and ever. I said that Morris was sick, I thought it was mono but was not 100% on it. When he did play, he wasn't great. Is there something wrong with saying that a Michigan quarterback wasn't great? Apparently so. Would you have said that Threet was a great quarterback? Sheridan? Forcier? Robinson? Gardner? If you thought they were great quarterbacks then more power to you. Henne was a great college quarterback and very talented but has been stuck with some really bad pro football teams.

He has been really bad, I didn't like him going to Washington, but I never thought of him being a starting quarterback at the NFL level. For the most part (Brady being the one exception) neither school's alum have had much success at the pro level. Michigan puts out a lot more talent at every other position, partly because they get better recruits and up until 2008, Michigan has had some very incredible coaches.
