Seriously Bama needs to make a splash hire regardless if its Harbaugh or any other high profile coach. You cant let the greatest coach of the BCS era just leave for another program and not make waves. Irregardless, recruiting is going to hurt. Even if Kirby remains the HC we will lose guys in recruiting. So I say go for the Oh WoW hire and get a top coaching prospect. Jim Harbaugh should be prospect no. 1

I think some of our fanbase lack of perspective is the deathnell for Saban. We need to be more patient and give the next guy a chance to build the program to his liking even if it is a few games where there is a 8 or 7 win season. Rome wasnt built in a day so we have to give the next guy a chance to be successful.

Man oh man Bama fans are delusional. There is virtually 0% chance that Jim leaves SF, but if he does, the only place he will be going to is Michigan, there is no chance in hell that he would go to Bama, sorry

Fans, or one fan. I cant see that anyone other than the OP made the statement that he would come or should be on the list.

I am still holding out hope that Saban and his wife follow through with what they have said all year and stay. If not then we can begin the search and conversations about the next HC. Personally i think Kirby Smart would be a good fit and i would offer him the job before he got the opportunity to board a plane with Saban(if Saban leaves).

I don't see Saban leaving 'Bama. At 'Bama Saban answers to no one except his wife. At Texas, he would have a bunch of multi-millionaire boosters expecting to play golf with him and give him advice on how to coach his team.

rjshull what does Bama have to lose in offering a deal to Harbaugh? Maybe he will say no unlikely that he would say yes. Its like asking ms. america out to a date, she will most likely say no,.. but its possible that she could say yeah why not. I could def. see him leaving for Michigan since he have ties there. Yeah we have no chance in the PIt of Hell, but it wont hurt to create an attractive package and ask the man. I promise its not illegal to do so... crazy .. maybe .. but illegal.. no

At this point Bama needs to make a splash. The Nick Saban deal have taken a life of its own. As Saban Leaves so does the top recruits. The only way to salvage the next 3 to 5 years is to make a splash hire. How is this idea so moronic? Many folks on here think this idea is lunacy! .. Well yeah it is a lil bit but it doesnt have to be just one candidate. There are many up and coming guys, like Josh McDaniels or even kirby Smart. All im saying is go for the IMPOSSIBLE, and if that doesnt work, then go for a more common hire.

Saban is actually older than Mack Brown.

He must use a shitload of hair color products.

Actually he is just less than 2 months younger but yes he probably does color his hair to not look old.

People can say what they want but Saban has done what he's done at ONE place. ONE! He had decent success at MSU and good success at LSU. We know how Dolphins turned out. So that brings us to Alabama.

MSU record

1995-1999
6-5-1
6-6
7-5
6-6
9-2

LSU

2000-2004
8-4
10-3
8-5
13-1 NC
9-3

Alabama

2007-2013
7-6
12-2
14-0 NC
10-3
12-1 NC
13-1 NC
11-1

He took over Alabama at a low point but coming off probation. He has had them in the national championship talk in November every year since 2008. He was good at the other schools but no where near like Alabama. There are more reasons then just the coach! There is no guarantee he is going to knock it out at Texas, if he even goes, and I personally don't think he's going so many of these threads are very premature!

I dont see him having much success within the next 3 years at Texas. He will be 63 years old and he would have to retool his entire coaching philosophy being in the pass happy BIG 12. The Texas fanbase are savagely unforgiving.. I mean look at how they are treating the guy who revived their program. Tossing him out like yesterdays trash by forced resignation. the only positive I can see from both parties is that Saban gets a nice little retirement plan from Texas overpaying and Texas benefitting from the short lived hype of having Saban.

Funny. Texas fans are tough. Did Texas ever fire anyone 1 yr removed from a 10 win season? Did Texas ever ruin a mans career after a trip to a strip club?

I dont know. Im not a Texas fan but what I do know is that the program fired a loyal program builder that only wanted the opportunity to improve a season where he didnt have a decent qb. I think that is pretty brutal.

Even though by his age his ceiling is not that high, but... Nick Saban is only a few months older than Mack Brown... I can see that Mack may have worn out his welcome, but to blindside him with a forced resignation is pretty classless.

1. Mack was one victory from winning the BIG12 after a disastrous start!

2. Many programs have a behavior clause where you have to conduct yourself in a professional way. The head of a sports program probably doesnt need to attend a sleazy strip club.

1. Big 12 was garbage this yr. Great!! Lets reward the fireman, even if he happens to be the arsonist.

2. Really? Strip club? It doesnt even register on the blotter of most schools.

I can see that Mack may have worn out his welcome, but to blindside him with a forced resignation is pretty classless.

There is no blindside. He heard the rumbles after the 2010 4-7 season. He threw his coaches in front of and under the bus and purged those who he thought underachieved. In 2012, he fielded the statistically worst Longhorn defense ever! ... and he didn't replace Diaz ever after he questioned the defense's performance after the Spring Camp(his recent words).

He told the Longhorn faithful that the 2013 team would be an improvement over the 2012 squad, it's a push.

There's no blindside, except for those who are blind.
