Be careful with the "statistically" part. Go back to 1980, and the top rated passer in the league would've bee the 9th rated passer in the league last year. Rule changes and stronger "emphasis" on certain rules have made is a TON easier to play QB today than it was 20 years ago.

The only way to compare QBs statistically is against the average like they do with ERA in baseball. I did a long study to determine the best QBs' YPA, completion percentage & passer ratings against the average. So looking at that and what they did in the playoffs, my top 4 QBs of all time are (in alphabetical order):

Peyton Manning
Joe Montana
Kurt Warner
Steve Young (whose efficiency #'s blew everyone else's away but didn't have much longevity).

I'd add Tom Brady's name, but I don't count anything the Patriots did when they were cheating. Legacy tainted.
lol,..I believe your [49r's] were emailed that same memo too = to STOP filming/stealing/whatever.....right....??

Peyton is good I got to see a lot of him in Tampa, Florida where the Volunteers played most of their bowls when he was in college, but he is no Tom Brady.

I bet Brady wishes he had a Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Thomas, to throw to. BoBo the Clown has the Broncos above .500 with the stars that team has.

While Brady toils away with a battered offensive line and guys that should be on developmental squads catching the ball.

By the way everyone still on the Whisenhut band wagon?

Radio statio in Detroit keeps bringing up Whiz's comment he like the Titans job better because he thought they were closer to winning.

Everyone likes Whisenhunt. He's not the problem and no one's close to calling for heads to roll. We've accepted that this team isn't even close to winning. Using the #8 pick on Jake Locker mortgaged our future for 6-8 years.

Locker really hurt or Titans moving on and prepping a for a first round QB.

He's probably hurt but fans are clamoring for a look at Mettenberger. I'm going to be at the Steelers game for MNF and just hope we can beat those guys.

Take nothing away from Manning/Brady/Rodgers, etc, but I'm not a huge fan of this era of the NFL...especially the last 4 years or so.

To answer the question...Montana...not the biggest arm, not the fastest, but I agree with earlier comment...he had whatever you needed at the moment you needed it...tough, took some big time hits and would be back up and playing. Probably his best attribute is said by Randy Cross...he really was cool under pressure and he made us feel cool under pressure.

People will say that he had a lot of talent around him, but he helped make those players what they were...aside from Jerry Rice the rest were really good role players that fit the system...and to those who say it was the Walsh system...the Walsh system was in place before Montana got there.

I loved Lock coming out of college, but even I wouldn't have touched him before 15, and would have sat his ass for at least one full season. Probably two.

Back to the OP...Young. But Manning is the best of the last generation. It will be interesting to see who the best of the current crop will be.

I don't know how anyone could see Brady on the same level as Manning. Unless they are a fan of the Pats or Wolverines. (Scott Dreisbach was better in Ann Arbor) Or Uggs.

And 99.9% of anyone who knows anything about professional football agrees. But see, the Titans are so smart that they shocked the world and used the #8 pick on him and tossed him right into the fray.

And it's really turned out well. :L

If we are judging them by their prime years, just how they played at the peak of their powers: John Elway.

He could scramble, he was big, he was tough, and he had a cannon for an arm.
