He thought he was within the rules...he, or no PGA Tour player would ever intentionally break the rules...

Relevancy? He broke a rule. Regardless of whether or not he intended to he did.

I know he did, LOC keeps saying he did it on purpose and therefore tryong to cheat. I don't agree.

That was long before he was a member of the PGA tour

1) are you unaware of the last 12 months

2) are you suggesting that golfers on other tours cheat,
but the PGA somehow manages to mystically remove character flaws upon membership

3) it's just one example

4) why does the PGA even have review committees or drug testing to begin with given #2 ?

I'm suggesting that you're bringing up an incident that happened in the mid 80s...are you actually saying that PGA Touring Pros actually cheat??? :L

I think LOC is just trying to understand why people don't think he should have been DQd or penalized

I think LoC is actually saying he intended to do what he did knowing that he was breaking the rules...what Tiger did was something that could have happened to anybody

No you can see by the beginning of this thread he was a hatred for TW. Calling him a cheater, that is not the case. He may not like the guy, don't really care. But saying he is ruining the intregrity of golf is absurd.

He has changed golf dramatically since he entered the tour, LOC is just bias little troll.

I think most people wouldve asked a rules official. I also think most people would have been disqualified. LOC might think he knew he was breaking a rule, which he may have, but i doubt he would have bragged about breaking a rule in a post round interview though.

correct, this whole "intended to cheat (didn't know the rule/temporarily confused in rage/whatnot)" is not relevant. he intended to drop it where he did, that is all that matters. by doing so, he cheated. by signing that scorecard afterward, he cheated.

But with respect to him choosing to drop it where he did,

I'm struggling to think of a situation where I can hit a ball into that kind of hazard, and end up with a drop situation where I can give myself a "competitive advantage" relative to replaying my original shot.

I'm more interested in the ruling not whether or not he is a cheater. If LOC thinks he knowingly broke a rule so be it, I am curious as to why people think he shouldn't have been disqualified.

But saying he knew he broke a rule, why know?? He has never done this, it makes absolutely zero sense.

1. He was penalized in Abu Dhabi for an illegal drop.
2. His intent is irrelevant. He broke a rule and he was aware of the facts that led to the penalty. He could have reasonably found out prior to signing and returning his scorecard that it was a penalty, and according to rule 33-7/4.5 that is a penalty that results in a disqualification.

Might want to ask the officials since they're the ones that did not disqualify him and decided to give him the 2 stroke penalty instead. No matter how much debate is made by the public, they're the ones that looked at the rules in detail to determine the penalty and that's what they decided upon.

Let's say that when Tigers ball hits the flag and goes into the water straight back from where he was hitting it from...at that point he can give himself a competitive advantage and drop it 2 yards behind where he originally hit... that he would be well within the rules in this instance and this is why he did what he did...

Yeah. It is what it is, the whole situation was just fucked up.

of course it would be within the rules IN THAT SCENARIO, but his the lines were 60* apart, not 6* apart. I'm just not buying it.
