I think this will be JC's "Marshall" game.

thoughts on this....

so against GT, we didnt run that much, and didnt have great success when we did.
in the passing game, Logan missed on many throws, and for most of the game, the receivers and Logan were out of sync.

which do we focus more on? trying to get the running game going, or trying to get the passing game going?

Both. Our OL should be able to just overpower a team like AP you would think. The passing game will come down to more film study and communication between LT and the WRs during practice this week. They will have to talk about each route, discuss why what happened happened and LT will just need to make better throws.
The run game will be deceiving i think this week just because of the difference in opponents. GT had a good DL and because we were losing, we didnt run much in the 4th when we would have worn them down and gotten the yards.

I thought the running game was pretty good. The problem was they were running the read option way too often in the second and third quarter when GT started to expect it on 2nd down. I would love to see both Holmes and Coleman out there at the same time since they both are pretty good at catching the football.

With receiving/passing, you could tell early on the receivers were not on the same page as Logan and he was frustrated by it. It may have unhinged him a bit because he was not accurate at all at that point and when he was, the receivers were dropping balls. Dyrell and Davis did not have great games outside of a few plays for Davis.

I hope Stinespring and O'Cain use this game to try out some new stuff other than read option and bubble screens because everyone in the nation knows that's what they want to do. I just hope they realize that the secret's out and been out for a while and they come up with plan B. Problem is that stuff will probably work against AP and it'll only fill them with confidence that they're doing a good job

Here's what I'd like to see for our defense:

  • Exum challenged on routes more complex than a fly
  • Bonner around the ball. Didn't get much action vs GT (by design I think)
  • G-W at backer. We need a contingency plan in case Edwards isn't ready by the UNCheat game. Taylor and Tyler are liabilities against the pass, and Bruce didn't look comfortable at backer.
  • To go along with the above, VanDyke at whip. He needs some snaps, especially if the coaches don't trust Tweedy. If Edwards isn't ready by UNCheat I think VanDyke, Taylor, G-W is our best option.
  • Significant playing time for some guys who are needed to provide depth. Harley, McCray, Aromire, Chase Williams, Manning, and Riley.

On offense:

  • Improved guard play, snaps for Benedict
  • Lots of carries for Holmes, Coleman, and Scales
  • Better audibles / checks by LT
  • More vertical routes for our TEs
  • Lots of Leal and the backup OL

Special teams:
  • New punt returner

I agree with all of that. Guards have sucked for a while now. God I hate Newsome what a bunch of dead weight. Why would you run a route with a WR or TE where they catch it at the line of scrimmage? Is that actually taught by the coaches?

On some plays the TEs are a safety valve, much like a RB out of the backfield, so yes it is taught. However when there are 44s left on the clock those aren't the kind of routes you want to be hitting. Better off with an incompletion.

Yep, hopefully we can allow the offense to get a rhythm going in the first half, then pull all the starters in the second half. Anybody got a pic of the awful helmets we are supposed to wear for this one?

White Helmets to be worn by football team vs. Austin Peay to be put up for auction

And they are going to be auctioning off these helmets. I put a few bids in for the Orange and also the Black helmets they've auctioned in the past, but I think I'll be skipping this year...

anyone know what this is about? @john_iezzi: I am not able to make it to practice today but am hearing rumors of possibly more attrition.

Aromire? Just a guess, but take a look at his latest tweets.

That would suck and be dumb. He got beat out for the starting safety spot by Bonner, but he is literally one injury at ANY DB spot away from being back in there and he would be playing a ton against teams like UNC and Clemson where we would go into Nickel.
