A reason it just might maybe possibly perhaps be a good idea to sign Wallace is because the Steelers are a SB contender just about every year, and if they get a 1st round pick it would be better for a team who might face them in the SB over the next few years to give 'em a high pick (30) than a low one.

"I want to be known as a receiver, not a specialist guy, not a punt returner, kickoff returner," Ginn said. "I want to be known as an actual receiver, and that was some of the things that they expressed in here (with the Lions) for me today that I enjoyed.

"I'm six years in now. I just want to be able to just be a receiver, and special teams is given."

Ginn left his visit to the Detroit area without a contract, but he said he was impressed with the Lions organization.

"I enjoyed myself here today," Ginn said. "A great group of coaches all the way around. As far as a commitment, it's just a little early right now. I'm going to see my options, but I like the Lions."

I didn't want Mario in our system (he and moss would eliminate one another)

49ers out of Manningham race?
8:31 AM ET

Mario Manningham | Giants | Interested: Rams?, Dolphins?, Bills?

On Wednesday, we passed along word that three teams were interested in free agent WR Mario Manningham: the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers. Manningham visited with the Niners on Thursday, but according to what a source told Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger, the WR left without a contract.

A new team on the list is the next up for a visit -- the St. Louis Rams -- while plans for a visit with the Dolphins and Bills have yet to be made public.

For San Francisco, while the developments don't entirely rule out Manningham landing with them, they may have moved on to trying to land another target more vigorously. Brandon Lloyd is also reportedly on their radar.

Meanwhile, KC Joyner explains why Manningham would be a boost to just about any team:

- Tim Kavanagh

KC Joyner
He's ready to make a larger contribution

"Manningham should be a beneficiary of the league-wide financial largesse for wideouts. His overall 2011 numbers are not as dominant as some of the big-name pass-catchers (39 receptions, 523 yards, four touchdowns, 8.0 YPA), but some of that was because of injuries and some because of bad luck (detailed here). Manningham notched an 8.6 YPA during the Giants' playoff run, posted touchdowns in three of those contests and snagged an all-time highlight catch that helped New York score its game-winning touchdown in the Super Bowl. Throw in the fact that Manningham posted double-digit YPA totals in nearly every major category in 2010 and it shows why teams that missed out on one of the other wideouts can still score an elite pass-catching talent."

The Wallace retention plan
8:04 AM ET
Pittsburgh Steelers

UPDATE: ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter confirmed on Friday morning that there hasn't been any interest of which to speak in RFA WR Mike Wallace thus far.

---

As we noted Wednesday, it's been awfully quiet on the Mike Wallace front, as we've heard nary a peep regarding any interest in the RFA thus far. The Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers had been cited as teams that could possibly try and lure him away with an offer sheet -- surrendering their first-round pick to Pittsburgh -- but each is in a difficult spot when it comes to the salary cap. Another team that had been speculated as a potential poacher is the Cincinnati Bengals, whose first-round pick is higher (No. 21 overall), but who have a substantial amount of cap space with which to work.

The Steelers re-structured the contracts of several players this offseason (and released several others) in order to give themselves as much cap space as possible -- in order to match another team's offer for Wallace -- and that process is apparently continuing. Brian McIntyre of Mac's Football Blog has revealed, per a league source, that NT Casey Hampton has re-worked his deal with the team, reducing his cap hit by $3.09 million.

That might not seem like too much, but every dollar counts when it comes to retaining Wallace.

Usually this guy has some informative stuff but this is just painfully retarded. Unless Victor Cruz is what he considers bad luck.

I agree. Lately he's been saying some idiotic things. I think it might have been earlier this morning or yesterday? I read a blog or an article and I can't recall what the subject was about...but I was like c'mon KC, WTF?! Very uncharacteristic of him.

Brandon Lloyd - WR - Rams

Sources close to the 49ers tell CSN New England that free agent Brandon Lloyd's visit with the team was likely a favor for agent Tom Condon.
It's customary behavior this time of year, done to help an agent show the rest of the league that there is a market for his client. So far, though, the 49ers are Lloyd's only known visit. His public campaigning to join the Patriots could be scaring off potential suitors.

That makes sense. Crabtree, Moss, and Lloyd in the same locker room doesn't seem like a great idea.

Unless there is a fear that Moss & Lloyd would give Crabtree a weggie or hang him on his locker hook, I don't see the problem with Crabtree in that equation, but the other two could certainly bring some unwanted excitement.

Lombardi is saying niners just offered contract to Lloyd.

What if it turns out if the Manning thing was to lure in WRs at a reduced cost who want to win Super Bowls now.

Maybe it lights a fire under Crab's ass, because he will not be handed the #1 WR job this season. He might start off as #3 on the depth chart behind Moss and Lloyd.

Crabs might realize it's time to put 100% effort into training camp, etc.

Especially if Manning is his QB.
