I noticed you didn't address my questions earlier...figures

Lets sign Kershaw to a 10 year deal. Why not?
Never said that....did I?

At this stage of his career he is year to year.

Again, you aren't seeing the obvious.

What is the LA pitching problem now:

Health
Playoff performance

Kershaw doesn't help with either of those does he?

They need healthy pitchers who can pitch well in the playoffs. I am shocked you don't see that. Are you comfortable with Kershaw in Game 4. Yes sor no?

Because the Dodgers roster is just filled to the brim with those. Kershaw's one of the only starters that even made it to the postseason, aside from Miller/Lynn and a bunch of unproven rookies. Urias decided to be a piece of shit and may never throw another MLB pitch, Gonsolin had TJS, May had TJS for the 92912214th time, and Buehler had surgery over a year ago and was rehabbing in AAA.

Who the fuck would give a 35-year-old pitcher a ten year deal, even if they were durable?

And as it stands, the Dodgers don't really have much of a rotation going into Opening Day 2024. Even if you can't depend on Kershaw in a postseason game, the Dodgers still need quality innings to get them to the postseason in the first place.

Yep, right now they have:

Miller
Pepiot (maybe, he will probably be the new Gonsolin)
Buehler (maybe, who knows how the UCL holds up and the velocity picks up again)

I have said that they need to sign at least 3 starters. Why?

Stone is not ready
Sheehan may or may not be ready
Ryan is not ready
Knack is not ready
Frasso may be be ready in late 2024

Friedman takes the his old Rays approach and relies on the farm system to provide the bulk of his rotation. While this has helped out in the past, it cannot be the sole source of starting pitching.

The Dodgers should move on from Kershaw because he is not dependable healthwise and his playoff performances continue to erode. I love the guy, but that 20 million needs to go to younger pitchers who will be dependable.

That is my point.

Kershaw is hurt at various points each year. Again, I love the man as a Dodgers fan.

The problem is that Friedman needs to focus on health and the playoffs. Friedman builds the best regular season teams in the game, but they can fold like lawn chairs in the playoffs. He needs to blend in established talent with the farm system instead of just relying on rookies. He also needs to be more active at the deadline.

I think they'd be much better off trying to pry starters in their arb years from another team than free agency. Even the more durable starters on the market have some real concerns (Giolito's sucked in 2022-23 and gives up too many home runs, Nola's 2021 and 2023 aren't good though the Phillies have had some rather bad defensive teams)

I can see a trade, yes.

They must avoid Ohtani at all costs. He does nothing to help the situation on the pitching front at this time. He is elite, but offense is NOT the problem (2nd in 2023 in runs scored). Who knows what type of surgery Ohtani needs.

I would like to see efforts made for Yamamoto, Snell, and Montgomery. Maybe even Flaherty.

Friedman needs to make his best determination which minor league pitchers they wish to develop and which are tradeable. He cannot rely on all of them and I think that is what he wanted to do after the injuries started to pile up. Even at the deadline, he seemed to take a guarded approach.

You can't sign the entire free agent class, but Friedman makes the same mistakes over and over again and builds teams for the regular season, not the playoffs.

With what we have in the pitching rotation right now?

Duh....yes.

Game 1 proved my point.

The hero worship needs to stop. I am interested in what Kershaw can do...not what he has done. He is a HOF pitcher...but those days are gone and anyone can see that.

It's time to move on and I think Friedman knows this. They need that 20 million to sign pitchers who are healthy and who can pitch in the playoffs. Giving Kershaw the Wainwright treatment will not help the organization.
Who is talking next year?

This is a discussion about this year’s playoffs. The doggies can’t fix the roster in the next week. They have what they have. And ‘shaw is at the top of their rotation.

Disagree

Miller is the top of the rotation...roberts hasn't realized it yet.

Totally missed the point. Either through your inability to read or you intentional wiggling. “At the top” does not exclusively mean #1 in the playoffs. He is one of the doggies starters. Period.

That not what you said. I never said he wasn't a starter on the team. You said he is at the top of the rotation. I disagreed.

Why would an Arizona fan care about what a dodger fan thinks about Kershaw?

Weird..

And since Kershaw started game 1....he is the only other logical starter for game 4....because Miller is pitching tonight. And pitching him tonight and game 4 would be stupid...
