what if GA beats LSU? Will two teams from the same conference play for the NATTY when neither is the conf champion?

that'd be something else, but lsu has beaten alabama, arkansas, and oregon. i dont see them dropping below #2 even if they lost to georgia.

I think they have already said if UGA won the SECCG that it would STILL likely be LSU and BAMA..

If two teams from the same conference play in the championship game, then a third team can be picked, but I don't know if Arkansas would be picked. I think a team like Michigan would be picked ahead of them.

Good point, I guess a 2 loss Arkansas may not look as attractive as say a Michigan after getting smoked by LSU their last game. I stand corrected.

If OSU doesn't beat OU, then there's a good chance that might happen. I think the universe might collapse if that's the case.

It's really about the fanbase and the fact that Michigan will get a chance to go to a BCS bowl after not being in one since 07 with a bigger fanbase than Arkansas. I'd personally rather watch Arkansas than Michigan, but the Sugar would rather have a team playing well with a bigger base riding momentum in their bowl game.

Or they could just tell Houston to fuck off and take Michigan vs Arkansas.

Actually, just went back to the BCS rules. We have all been talking about some of these scenarios lately I just forget..so many rules. The Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl is going to get screwed this year unless Houston loses next week and even then Boise would get an auto bid likely. IF Bama and LSU play for the NCG the Sugar Bowl will select a replacement team, Maybe Michigan?? The Fiesta Bowl chooses its at large this year first and they may choose Michigan or any other number of teams to include the non auto qualifier OR B.East champion (won't happen). They will probably select a PAC12 team to play the BIG12 Champion (Stanford??) The Sugar Bowl will select 2nd to last and they will probably have to take either the non auto qualifier (because they will finish higher in the BCS than the BEast champ) or the Big East champ. The Orange Bowl gets the leftover that the Sugar doesn't want.

As long as Houston wins next week in the championship game, then they get an automatic spot in the BCS. It'll be interesting to see who emerges from the Big East. If it's WVU, then the Sugar may take them over Houston.

Maybe so. Very possible. I think they would take top 10 BCS Houston over a barely in the top 25 WVU but ya never know. We will see next Sunday where everyone is at.

I think that the Sugar will take Houston over the Big East champ for two reasons:

1. The team will be perceived as much better.
2. Houston is not that bad of a commute and they will spin it as NO giving back to the people of Houston, for their response to Katrina.

When we win, we will get the BE champ. Pray for WVU.

The key thing to keep in mind here is that it's not necessarily about the best team for a bowl, but about the $$$ they can get from the fans.

FTR: Im not totally up to date on all the BCS rules but doesnt the non-AQ school have to be conference champ?

Depending on how things play out this wk in the Big East conference and ACCcg, (if available) VT v/s WVU would be the biggest $$$ maker for the OB imo.

Agree 100%

True. To add to 46's comments, I think Houston would maybe even travel better than WVU to N'awlins mainly because of proximity (less than 6 hours from Houston, closer to 16 from M'Town--per google). For a non-AQ school I believe they have a fairly strong following. I'm sure they would have one this year (at least) with an undefeated team and chance to knock off a BCS power conference school.

Yes, Allow me to retort my earlier statement in a previous post ^^^ concerning Boise St. They will likely still be in the BCS top 10-15 after next weekend. Even if Houston lost vs Southern Miss, they probably wouldn't get the nod because it looks like TCU will probably win the MWC. I am sure the BCS snobs are hoping for an upset next week UH vs. Favre's school.

Money and TV ratings. The Sugar has taken teams from weak conferences with great records before (Hawaii, Utah, Cincinnati) and only the Utah/Alabama game was competitive. WVU is not a great team, but they have had BCS success and bring more fans and possibly better ratings.

To be considered for an AQ, a non-BCS school must be a conference champion, be ranked in the top 12 (top 15 if they are ranked ahead of a BCS conference champ). And then, only one can qualify as an automatic qualifier and that is held to the one ranked highest in the BCS. Otherwise, they can be selected for an at-large bid but that has only happened once when Boise was selected by the Fiesta Bowl to play TCU (who had the AQ because they were ranked higher in the BCS standings).

How sad is it that we can play a more respectable opponent by NOT going to the Orange Bowl?
