A. I agree with you that firing Griffin was a mistake- a big mistake.

B. Gilbert helped deliver a championship by underwriting monstrous payrolls. Say what you will about him, but without his check book underwriting the highest payroll in the league year after year after year- the Cavs likely do not have a championship. That alone puts him in hallowed company among NBA owners. If i had the choice of any owner in the league Gilbert would be near the top because you know he will outspend just about everyone else and is supremely motivated to win. That is indisputable. A lot of the rest is just noise.

C. "Never be able to shake it off"--- uhh--- i beg to differ. I would consider hefting the NBA Championship Trophy a pretty effective way to "shake it off".

So again Gilbert gets credit for writing checks for monstrous payrolls, but it's unfathomable for the Warriors to do? Your narrative is hilarious.

The Cavs go to the finals every year because of Lebron. Without him the Cavs are a lottery team.

Allegedly Lebron's wife HATES Gilbert and has never forgiven him for the letter.

If his wife hates him so much why did he comeback to Cleveland. That wouldn’t be the reason he would leave.

What you should have said was w/o Danny Boy's checkbook no way in hell do the Cavs win it all. Hallowed company? Not sure 1 title puts him in the same category as Peter Holt (Spurs owner & 5 rings) or Mickey Arison (Heat owner & 3 rings). Of course even 1 championship is very special but for me to be in hallowed owners territory you need multiple banners.

Or Joe Lacob, who's owned the team for 8 years, has 2 Championships and 3 Finals appearances and is building a brand new stadium in San Francisco that will open in 2020.

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous. Obviously he wants more rings, so thinking he wouldn't stoop to a level of teaming up with other good/great players to obtain more is asinine IMO. Especially when he's already done so - more specifically he went to Wade's team. Also, he's not going to be able to play at this level for much longer as we all know father time will set in and getting established with a younger crew is just what he'll need to win NOW.

Exactly. I think this argument is a rationalization.

If rings are the priority then he is going to go wherever he feels he will have the best shot at winning rings.

If breaking records is the priority then that could be a different team.

If being close to his family is the priority then that changes things.

I don't have a clue which matters the most to him. But the notion that he is not going to join a team because they already have stars seems counterfactual.

LeBron and Love.

Look at the rest of the guys--- say 3-10 on the roster.

Oh yah- and Kevin Love has been an all star the past 2 seasons.

who, besides probably Boston, has a more talented 3-10 in the East? I would argue no one.
And none of this matters, to a guy who's in win now mode, when they can't beat the WC team standing in front of them in the Finals.

@Mecca is right, he can really only count on Nance Jr. & Korver to get you a couple timely 3's. Nance is Love 2.0 but much more aggressive and unfortunately it will take more than a couple timely 3's from Korver to win a title against either offensive juggernaut coming out of the West.

So the Cavs have the best player in basketball and the best 3-10 players and Kevin Love is an All-Star and yet they a struggling with a #5 seed?

Try this on for size.

George Hill is well passed his prime. JR Smith is well passed his prime. Kyle Krover is a one trick pony. Jeff Green is a playoff disaster every time he makes the playoffs. Rodney Hood has yet to show the player he maybe could become someday.

In fact of the 8 Eastern conference playoff teams the only teams whose benches are weaker than the Cavs are the Wizards and the Bucks.

Yep, downtown SF near the water/Bay Bridge. Gonna be a spectacle once it's done.

Don't nobody wanna be in Oakland.

But seriously, I think the crowd will suffer significantly in terms of the overall HCA. But revenue will be pouring in if the Warriors continue to be an Elite team.

what are you talking about?

You said I was living in a fantasy land thinking that the Warriors would be wise to pay out to keep a competitive and elite roster intact. I said that it's in their best financial interest to keep competitive because they're opening a brand new arena and will need those corporate sponsorships to fund it. So it's all well and good that Gilbert pays out and he's a hero for doing so, but the Warriors would be foolish to do the same thing?

if you are talking about how I dont think the Warriors can pay Klay Thompson and keep the core of Draymond, Klay, Durant and Curry together long term---- and somehow you are comparing that to Gilbert and the Cavs- let me take this opportunity to set you straight.

1. In order to keep Dray, Klay, Durant and Curry together for long term past NEXT YEAR after the 2018-2019 season- it would cost a LOT more than what Gilbert is paying - and Gilbert is paying the most in the league by a large margin. There is a large difference between dropping - say- $170-180M a year on payroll and luxury tax (like Gilbert has this year and last)---

and say the estimated 240M Show me the money: Can the Warriors keep it together? (as this projection had the cap at 108M and it will really be 103M- hence the addition of 25M on my estimate) - the 240 estimated in 2019/2020, and only rising from there- going up to as much as 340 million A YEAR in 2021/2022.

That is not sustainable no matter what your revenues are- as per the whole design/implementation/point of the luxury tax in the first place

2. Gilbert could buy and sell Lacob 4 times over and still have half a bill left for pocket change.

Kinda feel sorry for Oakland sports fans. First the Raiders leave for Sin City. Now the Warriors are bolting for the Bay. Will it only be a matter of time before the A's leave over the stadium issue?

Probably. But it looks like Oakland is doing everything they can to salvage the situation.

@CitySushi what i am saying is that next year is likely the last year that Klay/Durant/Curry/Dray will all be together.

There is a slim-to-none chance they can afford to re-up Klay for the 20/21 season. Say slim to none comes in and they resign Klay to 27M a year- which would be fairly cheap---- there is NO FUCKING CHANCE they could re-up Draymond the following year and keep the whole team together.

There is a 90% chance next year is the last year of the Golden State Big 4.

There is a 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% chance and there is no way in FUCK that the Big 4 will be on the Warriors for the 21/22 season.

This is not the Warriors fault- and it doesnt mean they are cheap. Its a fiscal reality based on the collective bargaining agreement.
