Jordan Matthews' inconsistencies have infuriated coaches in the past. Incredible athlete, but doesn't seem to have the desire to perfect his craft. If Belichick & McDaniels don't straighten him out early in camps then I doubt he'll even make the team.

That said, I think if the Pats can't get the most out of him, then he'll be starting his career as a used tire-salesman by October.

Uhhh "replace?" No.
Matthews is a slot guy with size.
Very not Cooksish.

Yeah right. Matthews is a very Belichick type of player. Hard worker. Good at the little things to get himself open. But things like catching though he makes look hard.

They also have to replace Amendola who signed with Miami.

Hmmm I heard different about the work ethic. But you would know better than I would. And yea his hands have been terrible.

Thoughts are you are wrong if you think Matthews replaces Cooks...
Production wise not as a burner. Fits Brady's skillset better than Cooks. He's taller and fights for the ball. I like this move. Call me wrong if you want? But if JM is healthy and gets on line with Brady I'll let the stats do my talking. If not feel free to call me wrong again.

Britt and Patterson have already filled those positions on the roster. Again I'm not claiming they're slot guys they are replacing WR roster spots. Matthews production will replace Cooks production not his deep routes.

Britt and Patterson have been underachievers and Matthews gets banged up easily.

Dola was also made of glass before he came to NE. Using him sparingly likely prolonged his career. Don't get me wrong I wish DA was still a Pat. But he took less $ for 3 years, filled in admirably for Edelman and came up big in the playoffs. As well as being a great teammate. I doubt both Britt and Patterson make the team unless Patterson is strictly a ST player with emergency duties as a WR? NE has 10 WR on the roster right now. No way they are all making the team.

Patterson is a good ST player and occasional WR....not a starter or heavy duty player at WR.

Don't think he replaces Cooks... As I remember he is slower than Cooks right? IF he remains healthy he will be very good

Well it beats "stonehands" trying to catch the ball!

I love hearing Pats fans try to tell Eagles fans what Jordan Matthews can and can't do. LOL.

Jordan Matthews is a really frustrating player as a fan. He likes to tell everyone he is the nephew of Jerry Rice and that he has a similar passion for the game. He works his ass off, stays after practice to catch balls, hustles like crazy...but simply can't catch footballs very well. He drops a lot of passes in key moments.

He primarily had success in the slot as a bigger slot target. He gets open with smart route running and using his height to post up nickel backs, not really with quickness or speed. He is not a good outside receiver because he is simply not very fast and doesn't pose a deep threat. Philly tried it, it didn't work. He also lacks the physicality to win jump balls when going against bigger boundary corners outside, because he is a tall, thinner guy without strong hands.

Carson Wentz liked him as a person, he is an OK player and could be a decent #3 receiver. But that's what he is, a #3 target.

He's not as good as Cooks but he's still a solid player, good pickup for the Patriots.

His work ethic is probably his best trait actually. He works super hard. But that is what makes him so frustrating--he works super hard to catch balls, and then gets in a game, and...drops a wide open TD in the endzone and causes fans to throw things.
