That didn't take long. Jordan Matthews signs one year deal with NE.

When healthy, I think he's a solid WR
I was just saying this on the NE board. If NE got a healthy Matthews I'm extremely happy with the Cooks trade. NE will still have a strong WR corps and can now address D with a bunch of their early picks I hope:hope:

I agree. A healthy JM with Brady tossing the pigskin around has a real good chance at putting up some solid numbers. Load up on D and the Pats will be looking good again this year. Not that I ever thought they were going to be out of the SB race.

matthews is a slot receiver, first and second level receiver. He's not any kind of deep threat that will force defences to account for him. He's not a replacement for cooks. And he's coming off of two years of injuries.

And misdiagnosis of injuries by the Eagles medical staff.

6'3" is a little big for a slot receiver

That's where he's played for both teams. He doesn't have the speed to take anyone over the top.

Then it looks like a misdiagnosis by the NE staff. He played outside for his first season and that was it. Slot is the only place he has been productive. If he plays outside he will clog the field for Edelman and Gronk IMO. I guess Bill could always work his magic like he always seems to do.

I don't think he is a replacement for Cooks I think those duties fall to Mitchell, I see him more a replacement to Amendola he will be packaged likely on 3rd downs maybe even with Jules on the field.

Patriots signed WR Jordan Matthews, formerly of the Bills, to a one-year contract.

The Patriots were in the receiver market after trading Brandin Cooks. Matthews is the opposite of Cooks' deep threat but has been a compiler over the middle of the field in between injuries and drops. Supposedly healthy after an injury-ruined 2017 in Buffalo — he underwent both knee and ankle surgery in December — Matthews fits the profile of a Patriots slot machine, at least on paper. We wouldn't consider him a lock to make the 53-man roster, but he will be an interesting name to track this summer.:suds:

Making fun of OP here for the headline. Arguing Matthews is replacing Amendola is an infinitely more grounded take to have.
Yeah I commented on this earlier. I feel he is a package dude, will be brought in situational conditions 3rd downs mostly with a mix of second most likely with Edelmen still on the field. I think Mitchell now healthy is our replacement for Cooks.

We are going to have to wait until a couple weeks into training camp to see how these new body's fit in or not.
There will be more competition for the roster spots than usual.
I like it.

If Jordan Matthews is being sold as a replacement... lul
A replacement in the sense NE added a wide receiver to their roster. He's a big target that gives Brady a weapin he doesn't have. Kenny Britt and Mitchell who don't like the mid crossing routes can take the defense deep. If JM is healthy he will be more productive then Cooks was for Brady. Brady had a good year throwing the deep ball but we all know that's not his strong suit.
