I think we go to 20 teams conferences, with the Pac & Big 12 combining, probably dropping Baylor and West Virginia.

Then the SEC & B1G poach the ACC.

B1G gets Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia, North Carolina, Duke, Ga Tech

SEC gets West Virginia, NC state, Va Tech, Clemson, Miami & FSU
The amount of bitching from Florida and South Carolina would be great with their whole “only one school from every state except that half the states have two teams” unwritten rule.

Only 1 side really needs to be in the hunt, because a loss could possibly keep them out.

Wisconsin vs Ohio St this past year is an example of that in action as I don't believe Ohio St legitimately still had a chance at that point.

It's why they say every game in the regular season is a playoff game(for those still in it).
Glad you added this part. Because without it, the statement would be horseshit.

So UTEP should have a shot at a title after going 0-12? You are forgetting that Ohio State also had a blow out loss to oklahoma. No team has finished undefeated since FSU in 2014 so every playoff has been BS?
:agree:

Realistically, why would the PAC want Okie State. They don’t bring that much in the way of fans or televisions. You are more likely to see PAC staying at 12 rather than picking up Oansas and Oklahoma State which would severely hurt how the conference is looked up and doesn’t help anything.
Different time zone for TV would be the draw. PAC has it tough way out there.

Auburn will go SEC East before Alabama.

There is already discussion about it now.

I've seen that too and it would work but as far as what's best for the conference one would think the OU/Bama CCG on the regular would be very appealing for the TV folk$.

That would be 1000x worse than the B1G adding Rutgers. At least Rutgers added money.
Kansas’s last outright conference title is 1930. OkState has one outright since 1948. Adding more games in a bloated time spot isn’t going to really help that much if you aren’t adding anything of quality.

Doesn't matter, CFB games bring eyeballs, that's why we still see so many bowl games, even the bad ones outdraw things like "big" regular season basketball games. The BIG network doesn't mind Rutgers v ______ in any time spot because they cant air some other game/show and get similar ratings.

They don’t mind having Rutgers because they add an estimated 40 million a year in cable revenues alone. Adding two nothing programs does them no good. No TV revenue few fans. And would make adding Maryland and Rutgers look like adding powerhouses.

The days of getting paid for having crappy teams in a big state will be over soon. At least Kansas brings a ton of basketball money. Check out their tier 3 deal with ESPN.

From what the media "experts" are saying, national appeal is going to be the driving factor in future media negotiations instead of big state population/tv market numbers/regional appeal. I'll see if I can find the article but I ain't too swift at this googling shit.

Makes sense, these networks and cable companies will be pinching pennies a lot more now that more Americans continue to cut the cord.

Oklahoma State isn’t going to bring any national appeal to the PAC. Kansas would bring some to college basketball but less than nothing to football.

16, 18, or 20 works in that scenario. Big 12 is swallowed up. I would love 20. That would mean 9 conference games and cut down on the fluff. A 4 team conference playoff would make the selection committee useless. Each conference has a mini-playoff and the winners play in NC playoff. I would hope that would also encourage OOC scheduling. Early losses would not be as significant in that system. Win your conference and you are in.
This is my preference as well. 18 or 20 team leagues. Then everyone's schedule is the same and you free teams up OOC. Right now there's no impetus to schedule great OOC games . You basically have to win your conference right now to get in anyway ( unless you're a name brand school ) and even if you win your league your not getting in with 2 losses so there's no point in challenging yourself OOC for most teams. Doing it this way frees teams up to not worry about an OOC loss

But also doing things that way means there is no reason to challenge yourself out of conference because it doesn’t have any positive for you. Scheduling 2 bad mid-majors and a terrible FCS has no penalty compared to scheduling two P5 and a decent G5.

Other than better preparing yourself for league play you're right but as it is now there's little upside to playing a great OOC. If you win you still need to win your league unless you're a Bama/OSU type school and if you lose your margin for error is zero . This way you'd at least have no downside even if your upside is not much either

Yeah, Okie Lite doesn't move the national needle much if any. Neither do 75% of most P5 conference members. Most appeal for the non blue bloods is regional at best.

Other than the usualy suspects, I'd have to conjecture that BYU probably has a much larger national appeal than the majority of P5 members do. Those Mormons are scattered all over the nation...and the planet.
