This is my preference as well. 18 or 20 team leagues. Then everyone's schedule is the same and you free teams up OOC. Right now there's no impetus to schedule great OOC games . You basically have to win your conference right now to get in anyway ( unless you're a name brand school ) and even if you win your league your not getting in with 2 losses so there's no point in challenging yourself OOC for most teams. Doing it this way frees teams up to not worry about an OOC loss
We can all hope this might provide some impetus...at least a little.

Yeah, Okie Lite doesn't move the national needle much if any. Neither do 75% of most P5 conference members. Most appeal for the non blue bloods is regional at best.

Other than the usualy suspects, I'd have to conjecture that BYU probably has a much larger national appeal than the majority of P5 members do. Those Mormons are scattered all over the nation...and the planet.

Again though, what else ya gonna air if you are the TV folks? Okie State ( or the other 75%) still gets you eyeballs that a lot of other content does not.

And if they happen to be good/interesting nationally at a certain point then it’s just gravy for the TV people.

Oklahoma State isn’t going to bring any national appeal to the PAC. Kansas would bring some to college basketball but less than nothing to football.

Well they can't all be home runs, but Okie state gets them in a different time zone, and Kansas tier 3 deal with ESPN proves they bring a lot of value.

No they can’t, but that doesn’t mean you go after bunts.

Attendance in most major sports is down and will likely continue to drop. Prices are going up , access to games is going up. In general I think the sport is as popular as ever , there's just way more ways to watch now without having to spend 500-1000 bucks to get your family into the game

As a fan of a "bunt" you should know that no league is filled with HRs. If the Pac can't raid the Big 12 at all they'll be stuck with MWC teams to choose from.

But also doing things that way means there is no reason to challenge yourself out of conference because it doesn’t have any positive for you. Scheduling 2 bad mid-majors and a terrible FCS has no penalty compared to scheduling two P5 and a decent G5.

It would lessen the pain of an early season loss. Most coaches would rather play tough games, if it didn't hurt their chances at making a playoff. Giving slots to conference champs would changes the math in deciding to play USC or a FBS team.

Yes, Michigan State would probably be the 5th or 6th option if the Big10 dissolved, but it doesn’t mean that the PAC should take a team just so they can get a meaningless time zone change.

It may or maybe they don’t play a USC because they want to lessen the chance of an injury. Ask FSU if they would have rather played Troy or Bama week one last year?

It’s amusing how many people bitch about how the SEC and ACC don’t play their conference members enough that are also wanting to go to these huge 20 team conferences where teams will never play teams that are supposedly “in their conference”. And every other sport will be completely fucked to appease these idiots that want to “fix” a system the worst way possible that isn’t even broken.

Ask OSU if they would have scheduled OU or USC would have scheduled ND. I don't think coaches are nearly as afraid of playing teams as you think.

I don't think anybody wants the big conferences, we just see it coming. Bottom line the more teams in your conference the more bargaining power you have when negotiating a tv deal.

Yes they schedule those games because it gives them a huge boost in the rankings if they win and they also get a head to head bump if it comes down to OSU vs OU to get into the playoffs. If there is nothing to be gained and everything to be lost, why schedule it?

Then why hasn’t the Big12 added Boise St, Houston, Cincinnati and UCF? Because it doesn’t matter if you add garbage, it’s all about the number of teams?

I wish you would actually read comments and address them, instead of making up issues to argue against. I never complained about how many times SEC or ACC play each other, that is you building a straw man. I said the current system is flawed, because of the unbalanced nature of the schedules. It makes no sense that Bama played 2 teams with a combined 1 SEC win last year out of division, while other division members had to play teams with 11 combines SEC wins out of conference. That is inherently illogical

If it is all gain than explain why OOC scheduling is generally weak. I have little doubt that USC/OSU are in with a weaker OOC schedule. Wisconsin and Auburn were thrown out of the playoffs for playong an extra game. They rewarded Bama for not making the conference championship

Comparing UCF to Michigan state and Okie state is just dumb, don't be that guy.

Very true. Unlike us college football zealots, the casual East coast fan doesn't get excited about an Okie Lite/Cal game any more than a casual West coast fan is going to want to watch Rutgers vs Purdue. However, both are pretty likely to tune in to the OU vs tOSU game like we had last year.
