I'm sorry but that is crazy. Get by for the next FEW YEARS??? That is an eternity. It may work that way in KC but in the NFC East you don't have the luxury of striving to just "get by" for 3 or 4 years. Heck, knowing Snyder's impatience he may go all in this year even though he's holding shit cards...
True, this is a pipedream given the owner. I nonetheless believe it is the correct thing to do. Kind of a dick move, but playing in pretender land will get tiring eventually. Being better than a pile of dogshit of prior Skins QB's is essentially the same excuse I got about this time last year for paying Ryan Fitzpatrick... well anything. Kirk Cousins will be 29 by week 1. If someone can sell me on 32-33 YO Kirk Cousins winning a SB, do tell.

The FO screwed the pooch and they are hosed.
If KC wants to explore other horizon's, he will get the opportunity.

Could've easily been in the playoffs last year had they not had the worst 3rd and long

could've easily made the playoffs last season were it not for the worst 3rd and long defense in the last 30 years and the kicker cost a couple of games. So yes I could see it happening. Problem is it's a team game, he's more than capable of taking a good team to the sb

They'll probably use the trans tag and let someone else set the market for him next year. I'm holding out hope a ltd gets done though

Tag next season for Cousins will be 34.5M. I'm betting KC asks for close to 90 guaranteed if he's tagged again. Not saying they wont use the tag, but if he signs it the Skins will be on tve hook for that 34.5M.

OK, but what's the backup plan? I don't think Cousin is some kind of great talent, but he fits the system and produces.

Whad'up Harold. Lookin' forward to 2023 when the Niners are ready to kick some Seahawk ass! :tsk: :(

Most 49er fans think it's a foregone conclusion that Kirk will be a 49er next year. :mad2: And nothing fills me with more rage.

No backup plan is better than settling for a "meh" QB who's JUST good enough to sneak you into the playoffs & lose IMO. It's better to just keep replacing the QB w/ the spray & hope technique than sticking with a guy who almost guarantees you're not going to win a SB.

I'm super negative on the 49ers, as you can tell. I think Lynch is an amateur and Shannahan is a choke artist. And I think their plan is dog s**t. In fact, I think the 49ers will rue the day they passed on Trubisky. I REALLY hope 49er fans are wrong and Kirk ends up somewhere else, but I'm not betting on it.

Well, that's in large part because it's just not a very good defense in a scheme that demands absolute execution. It makes very little effort to assert itself in coverage compared to a more man-based defense; though that could be my bias speaking. Look what happened to Seattle (essentially the same scheme) when it loses one of its superstud safeties. Look what has happened to say the Chiefs when Berry has been out by comparison. It's not a trick question

That would be awesome if they ended up doing that:pound:

Completely botched. It is fucking hilarious how bad they have botched this. It will be even funnier when the Niners are immediately better than the Redskins after he switches teams.

The whole Cousins story is such a stain on the redskins franchise. If they weren't the redskins, it would be a bad story, but instead it's great story of perseverance by a really solid QB who believed in himself.

I agree. If I'm a GM for the Redskins I sign Cousin to a contract and trust myself to fix the defense. You can literally wait a decade for a QB that is " good enough" see the Browns for proof. If the Redskins had signed him from the beginning the contract would of been so much more reasonable costwise. Like you said counting on landing the next Brady or Rodgers is slim, realistically teams got to find a QB that can produce in their offensive scheme and Cousin has. I don't think he's some great talent, but the scheme fits him well, be happy you got that.

See the Redskins for proof:pound:

The chance of finding a QB in round 1 that is as good as KC is at best 2/10.

The chance of finding a better one is 1/10.

There is a reason you don't find a PB QB hitting FA.

As for the defense, it was bad last year. The Skins have plenty of pass rushers so that isn't the issue. The problem was stopping the run. They couldn't stop the run because they were horrible up the middle. They have done a lot to fix that and we will have to see how it turns out.

The transition tag doesn't run at 35 mil. It runs about 27-28 mil and allows other teams to offer KC a contract while giving the Redskins the opportunity to match it.
