Grading them on a little bit of a curve due to their combined zero years of FO experience:

They unloaded the Mozgov contract and traded away a guy they were going to have to trade anyway while getting a modern center on an expiring deal and the #27 pick in the draft.

So far, they are also showing the patience on the PG-13 trade that I was unsure they would have given their lack of experience and desire to make a big splash by landing a star.

They are getting rid of Nick Young. While I always liked Nick (despite him being a harmless knucklehead or maybe because of it) and he did play much better this past season, he is clearly not part of the future.

They have cleared up enough cap space to either bring in a max player (or complete the PG-13 trade) this year and another one next year. Or bring in 2 next year.

As of now...solid B.

2 max players with the solid nucleus is really good.

As of this morning (according to the newspaper) no deal yet. The last reported offer was both late first rounders and Randle or Clarkson. The Lakers were balking because the Pacers want the #2 or Ingram.

Honestly, I'd do Randle, Clarkson and both late 1st rounders though.

It's just too much imo.

Getting PG would be amazing but it would weaken the front court AND the bench.

With Lou gone, Swaggy gone, and potentially Clarkson gone, what's left of the second unit? I like Nance, Zubac and Black but they won't get it done.

Nah. Ball, George, Ingram, Nance, Lopez.

I think Zubac and Deng come off the bench. Depending on how the season goes, might see Zubac eventually replace Lopez as the starter.

I really like Nance....

It's not too much....Clarkson, Randle and 2 late 1st rounders is raping them.....not even close to fair value for PG but given their situation, they won't get fair value.

But if they give up all that, how will they get rid of Deng?

That is a bad trade. Be patient and you get him for free next year. Use one of those assets to move Deng.

I disagree. If they can't unload Deng, they can always stretch him. I'm of the opinion that he is worth giving another shot to see if last year was an anomaly and if he plays better on a better roster.

Unlike Mozgov, Deng has a history of being a good player in this league. He gets one more shot at showing he's got something left and if he doesn't...they try to trade him and if they can't find a taker, he gets stretched.

You're forgetting Deng and Brewer on the 2nd unit....plus they could pick up a few pieces for the bench.

A year ago, yeah I would have taken that to the bank.

Now the Lakers have Indiana by the balls.

I'm not too high on those guys really. They're a dime a dozen

Not if the Cavs offer Love.....that blows away the Lakers trade to be honest. He might be 28 and injury prone but he's better than Randle and Clarkson.

The cavs have other issues to mind at the moment. Don't think they'd give up Love in a deal any way.

You trade for PG now....why?

Because, he could get traded to another team and fall in love with the city and sign an extension.

He gets a year to play with the kids and learn the system and then they add a max player next summer. That way you don't have 2 new players to get acclimated.

Screw making a splash. Be patient and actually prove you are competent.

Another thought. Trading for PG13 now actually makes it less likely you land LeBron or another comparable player. If the Lakers struggle next year with the kids, it isn't a big deal. What if they underachieve now with George and win 35 games. Would LeBron still consider them? I doubt it.

Adding George today is a bad idea. You give away assets for nothing and add pressure to win now on guys who might not be ready to.

I disagree. They will have Lopez and PG-13 to take the pressure off of the young guys. Also, Lebron went to a 33 win team because he saw the potential there. Granted, he made sure there were wholesale changes to the roster, but the point is, he saw some promise there.

Imo, the Lakers are likely in a little bit better situation than the Cavs were at that time. Besides, if Lebron decides not to be a Laker, that's fine. If Ball looks to be the real deal and they have PG-13, there will be other, likely younger, max level players who will want to be Lakers.

Never under-estimate a team in desperation mode. They have to try and keep James....that could make them get back involved in trade talks quickly.
