There's another reason for the Cavs to trade for PG that no one is talking about.... Cap room next off-season .

If they swap Love's max deal for PG's expiring deal.... the Cavs can be a player next off-season in the free-agent market (and it looks to be a good one).

If they keep Love, or swap for another long-term contract, like Butler... their hands are tied again next year. No options besides trying to trade and relying on other teams to cooperate.

PG is 'only' 18M though.
These days that doesnt get you near the same level of player.
If Gilbert thinks James is leaving, win or lose, hes foolish to trade Love for a 1 year rental IMO.

I disagree. If LeBron leaves, Cleveland will not be very good regardless of whether they have Love or not. If you can swap Love for George and potentially win another title this year, you go for it. The alternative is winning 35-45 games with Love/Irving and early playoff exits.

Come one, don't be one of those guys that points to Ray Allen's corner 3 and ignores every other play that led to the result.

Lets give all the credit to Draymond's self-induced suspension instead of Kyrie and LeBron going apeshit in Game 5.

Draymond played the greatest single game of his life in Game 7 and the Warriors lost. Yet, somehow if Draymond plays in Game 5 its an automatic win.

Agree nothing is automatic, and Ive never said Cavs didnt earn the title, but the Draymond stuff totally changed to momentum, and Warriors never regrouped.

I see what you're saying.

But if Cleveland doesn't win next year, and I think regardless if they win it all next season it won't matter too much.

But you know that once Lebron leaves, the Cavs' title chances are gone.

If they get George which puts them over the top again before the rebuild starts, it would be worth it for them.

Prob arent beating the Warriors, regardless, and then you're left with what?
It depends what you can get for Love, but my guess is top 7 pick and a decent player?

ONLY if you believe that makes you better than the Warriors.
I dont think it would.

I could be wrong but I don't think anyone is giving up a top pick for Kevin Love. I'm very, very down on the guy, though and think he's completely worthless (so I guess I'm not the most impartial of people.)

I don't think it would either, but it gives them a better chance. And if you have him (being the Cavs) and one of the Dubs' big 4 is unavailable, it gives them a realistic chance. Right now, the Cavs, or any team for that matter can't really make any improvements that will make them better than the Warriors next season.

Love's worth has dwindled significantly in the last couple of years; particularly for a title contending team that's going to have to go against the Warriors. He's a good player, just not against the Dubs. And that's the problem for someone that's over $20 mil.

I agree not top 5, but I woudnt rule out 6-10.
I know very little about the college players, but most 'experts' think the 2nd tier starts after 5.

How about a trade that sends both Paul George and Thad Young to Cleveland? Could be Love and Shumpert headed back to Indiana. Young isn't great -- but he could theoretically match up decently against Golden State.

That would be a decent trade.

Cleveland could maybe throw in a 2nd rounder or future first rounder or something to try to sweeten it -- but I think Love is enough really. And Shumpert and Young both have 1+PO left on their contracts so it wouldn't kill them in salary.

ok, so grade so far the job Magic and Palinka are doing...?

Grading them on a little bit of a curve due to their combined zero years of FO experience:

They unloaded the Mozgov contract and traded away a guy they were going to have to trade anyway while getting a modern center on an expiring deal and the #27 pick in the draft.

So far, they are also showing the patience on the PG-13 trade that I was unsure they would have given their lack of experience and desire to make a big splash by landing a star.

They are getting rid of Nick Young. While I always liked Nick (despite him being a harmless knucklehead or maybe because of it) and he did play much better this past season, he is clearly not part of the future.

They have cleared up enough cap space to either bring in a max player (or complete the PG-13 trade) this year and another one next year. Or bring in 2 next year.

As of now...solid B.

Clarkson, Randle, and both late 1st rounders...

As of this morning (according to the newspaper) no deal yet. The last reported offer was both late first rounders and Randle or Clarkson. The Lakers were balking because the Pacers want the #2 or Ingram.

Honestly, I'd do Randle, Clarkson and both late 1st rounders though.

So, Ball, Ingram, Deng, George, Zubac, Lopez....

Yesh....but, at least it's over and you get your guy.

Is it final?

Nah. Ball, George, Ingram, Nance, Lopez.

I think Zubac and Deng come off the bench. Depending on how the season goes, might see Zubac eventually replace Lopez as the starter.
