Jackets were protecting three guys mainly; Milano, Korpisalo and Anderson. Those could be big down the road.

But why they didn't steer them to Calvert or Johnson, I won't ever understand. If neither of those two gets traded by Saturday, I am don't happy.
Dropping the Clarkson contract was a good move imo

Milano was exempt, no?

If you just traded one of Korpisalo or Anderson what do you think the return would be?

I said this before, but I don't understand the benefit. He's injured so you can LTIR his cap hit, and the contract as I understand it is insured so the actual cost of keeping him is nothing but the deductible.

Yup, and indeed Milano is exempt.

Guess they really didn't want to lose Jack Johnson.

I would need to see the contract details. If they were able to dump salary great move. But I do think Snow made the worst move of the night regardless. The MAF pick makes no sense as far as Vegas. They aren't going to be co oetitive off the bat. The picked up two solid young goalies. To me it would have made more sense. To go with a third young goalie and groom them for the future. And grab a young forward like Rust or Hagelen. Then again I'm not a big fan of hockey in Vegas either. I would have preferred an expansion team north. Be it Canada,Wisconsin or the Pacific Northwest.

The contract is definitely insured. We know this because it was part of why they traded for him in the first place, Nathan Horton's contract had a similar cap hit but wasn't insured and so it was still costing them the full amount.

There's been some smoke that the Leafs are going to get Colin Miller from Vegas tomorrow for Carrick and Griffith.

Wouldn't mind that at all.

I looked it wouldn't count against their cap.The only thing they could gain.Aside from protecting a player.Would be flexibility later. Involving potential future moves. Not the bestride but not as bad as the Isles trade imo. The MAF pick was awful tho

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this.

Clarkson also wasn't selected in the draft to keep someone else from being selected, he was an addition to the trade package. So he didn't protect anyone that way either. I don't get it.

Have to have a competitive team early to sell tickets...MAF is now the face. That has value too.

There are a few stipulations in regards to trades and free agency based on the roster spots based on his contract. That would effect them following this season. Not a cap dump. But having him under contract would have had an effect on future moves. As far as the insurance. That just means Vegas only has to cover 20% of his contract

Idk Neal could very well function as the face. As could some of their other picks. If you were starting a team now. And had the option of MAF, Rust, Hahalen. Who do you go with? I think future

Rust, definitely. (Hagelin is grossly overrated. Decent player, not a building block.) And I would definitely not bring in Neal to be the face of a team. He's curmudgeon-y with fans. You need someone to sell the team, MAF is perfect for that.

That makes sense, but the value of this doesn't seem to me to be anywhere close to matching what Columbus gave up to make it happen.
