I completely disagree with that statement. It is extremely hard.

But sorry for not adhering to your rules!
They were not my rules I did not ask for the best rock album (singular) of all time. We can all just spew off a few great albums and remain non-committal but that was not how the question was posed. We were asked to choose one, and no, it's not that difficult.

I like Animals more than any other Floyd album....but I can't neglect the importance and impact that DSOTM had.
Agreed it was an amazing album and perhaps I listened to it so many times I just got a bit bored with it. Great album while stoned.

I disagree (again). It is that difficult.

I will also continue to spew off as many great albums as I want to. Deal with it.

Add one more to the list, just for your pleasure:

Faith No More- King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime.

The question really cannot be answered. Most of you are just telling us what your favorite album is, which is fine. But to come up with a definitive "all time best" is going to be nearly impossible.

Also, OP = fag

Well there you go, if indecision is your shtick so be it.

This is true which is why I chose the one I feel was best in accordance with what I like. For me it has to have great lyrical content followed up with great music. But it's all personal taste.

I guess we could poll it in an album tournament. Maybe list 40 albums have them go one on one winner advances then faces next album. Type thing.

There was no criteria listed for determining the "best" album so I just went with an obvious personal favourite. If part of the criteria was popularity, then yeah, there's too many to list.

a few more that need a mention imho

Machine Head - Deep Purple
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Exile on Main Street - Rolling Stones
Layla - Derek & the Dominoes
Cosmo's Factory - CCR

Sabbath's first album is IMO, their crowning moment. I'd also take Sticky Fingers and Let It Bleed over Exile...quite easily for myself.
