And if you are going to mention Melancon (who has an opt-out), you have to put in Kershaw.

Judgment call. Melancon opt years are at $14 mill per. That puts him $4 mill per behind Chapman. Kershaw's opt years are at $32.5 mill per. That puts him at or very near the top of the starting pitchers' food chain.

Besides, there is no way the Dodgers are going to let Kershaw reach free agency even if they have to give her $40 mill a year.

Are you saying you don't think Kershaw will opt out?

And if you think Melancon will opt out, why won't Cueto?

And that he think Melancon will??

Have you looked at Melancon this year?
Also, Melancon's due $38 million for 2019/2020. That's $19 million per year, not $14 million. No way he's walking away from that.

And if Kershaw had Tommy John surgery tomorrow, and was projected to miss all of next year, I think he would still opt out.

Adam Jones sucks.

I think that saying a 5x all-star, once again on pace for around 30 HR's "sucks" MIGHT be a bit of a reach. lol

The guy is more than likely going to end his career with 400 HR's, 2,000 hits and has a lifetime .276 batting average.

With 250 games left before he can opt out? Yeah. If he thanks then, no. But my list was built on the assumption that the players would continue to perform as they have in previous years.

Dodgers have deep pockets. They'll lock him up. And why would Kershaw leave anyway? He pitches in the best pitcher's park in MLB and the best metropolitan area for commercial endorsements. They'll extend him. It will be an obscene amount of money but they will get it done.

Yeah, that one is really right. I went with Machado because he is 6 years younger. He hit 35 homeruns at the age of 23 so who knows how many he'll put up when he enters his prime years?

No, Melancon is 2 years at $14 million a year: 2018-19 MLB Free Agents

And the Dodgers will not let Kershaw go. Period. It won't happen. Maybe you want him in Boston. Forget it. That isn't happening either. The Red Sox pockets aren't as deep as the Dodgers and besides, a few years down the road from now the Sox will be paying Mookie and Zanduh a combined $50 million a year just to keep them from going to the Yankees.

Is Ervin Santana really good enough to make this list twice?

Than Cueto should be on your list.

I didn't see an opt out for him until 2022. If he does indeed have an opt out after next season then, yeah, he'll probably take it. $21 million a year for pitcher of his caliber is probably a bit low and it would be his last chance to score a big payday.
