You must have stopped watching football. There's been multiple times where the returner never attempted to get to to ball and the refs blow it Dead = Touchback.

I certainly stopped paying close attention to kickoffs when they pussified the rules. I've still seen plenty of them though and never witnessed what I saw yesterday.

It was definitely a touchback.

That's something completely different.

They changed the rules a few years back so the moment the ball touchdowns down in the endzone the play is dead.

This should have been a TD for the Bills. The guy never took a knee or attempted to take a knee and there was no whistle blown.

I really really do not like how the NFL has reversed course on stupid actions by players in the past month that should not have been reversed. Part of the game if a player is going to make a bone head move. The other one that shouldn't have been changed is when Dak chose to kick the ball to start the game instead of defer.

you know it is a major brain fart on the refs part when a reserve ref just chilling on the sidelines has to run out there & make sense of it. To keep the ref from terminating his career.

Funny, saw a kickoff today in the Saints game where the returner just ignored the ball and the ref blew the play dead.

Now in all honesty when I saw this happen earlier this season I wondered why the ball wasn't live, then saw it later that day and just figured they stopped forcing the receiving team to have to physically down the ball. To me it makes sense especially if the returner has absolutely no intention on attempting to make a return.

I suppose I've just not paid attention to the kickoffs closely enough in the last year or two :noidea:

Reminds me of those YouTube goofy plays in high school when a team kicks a long FG on the final play of the game and it's way short. Opposing team catches the ball, drops it, starts celebrating, kicking team picks ball up, and walks into endzone for a TD. Now, the other team celebrates victory.

phil, could you actually explain how you would change this rule, and all rules for the better. It needs a thread

Touchback...

Thanks to the NFL the referees are so fucking confused he didn't even know what he was doing. Time to switch out live referees to robots, which the MLB should've done a long time ago. That'd be a great way to get Asians involved in American sports.
