Just saw a tweet that they went to his room and found it empty of both him and his belongings, and wouldn't respond to anyone with the team contacting him, and they found out mid game via his agent about his decision to opt out.

I don't have an issue with him opting out. But he handled his decision in about the worst way possible. Lorenzo Cain opted out yesterday, but he talked with the team before making his decision, didn't just decide to take his ball and go home without saying anything.

I believe when he renegotiated his contract there were a bunch of clauses and triggers in it. He may have figured he wasn't going to reach them and so he wasn't leaving that much on the table.

My secret sauces are saying that he still wasn't 100% healthy after all those surgeries, and this being a truncated season, he didn't want to risk another injury that could jeopardize a big FA payout. This way, he goes out having shown possible suitor teams that he can still play and isn't bothered by the injuries/surgeries, and then he gets more time to heal and rehab.
