I posted this on a different thread but am afraid it may get lost on there and I am interested to see what posters would do. You would have to trade possible future stars for proven players that make you better over the next 2 to 3 years.

I would want to hang on to Trammell in that deal. Berrios and Buxton numbers are surprisingly (to me, at least) mediocre over their careers, so that feels like selling really low on "one of the best prospects in baseball". Since both are reasonably young with upside above their decent numbers (and I'm not sold that Kelenic is truly a star) I think I would do it, just not giving up on all 3 of our prospects in that deal. I don't think that I buy the value number that site is putting on Polanco; I like Buxton quite a bit more than him, but that could be because I remember when liking Buxton when he was drafted.

The kicker on this would be paying Buxton and Berrios since they are due for new deals. Polanco has a pretty affordable contract and you can slide him in at 2nd for few years.

I dont really value Trammel, Sheffield or Moore a ton at this point. I think you are looking at a 4th OF, a bullpen arm/swing starter and a pure utility guy respectively.

Obviously Kelenic is the key. His performance aside, I think unless you think Kelenic will be a superstar or you are nervous we wouldnt sign Berrios or Buxton then I think I take this deal tbh.

after 2 years the mariners would loose..every one of those guys......these young mariners guys will still..be around...maybe in 6..and may be better players by then
sheffield is just going threw..what kikuchi was last year....

i would rather just get a free agent...than loose all the time....... and effort..put into these guys...

but sheffield .........at this point.......would make a great..long relief guy..or spot starter.....so.i do not want to be to hasty..in trading him..
when the mariners could..but prob wont...with

Anthony Misiewicz 38...L/L
Héctor Santiago 57.....L/L
these guys are good..right now........a lot of what is keeping the mariners above..500...with the rest of the pen of coarse.........

Kendall Graveman 49 (CL)..has been awesome..huba huba( hurry up) re-sign
JT Chargois 8........................awesome
Drew Steckenrider 1............awesome
Anthony Misiewicz 38.............good..and still getting better...L/L
Paul Sewald 37....................awesome
Erik Swanson 50..............awesome
Casey Sadler 65 IL-60...awesome..till injured
Ljay Newsome 74 IL-60..he was..till he met the angel's..one spot start..that was..his...... ZILLA...zilla(monster)
Héctor Santiago 57...goood.......L/L

next years guys added
Andrés Muñoz 54 IL-60
Ken Giles 58 IL-60

so..if i add sheffield to this...while getting an..other starter...like paxton...ooohhh yeah he is still with seattle...and will be done with tommy john by then
James Paxton 44 IL-60

hhhhhmmm..what would that look like

1Marco Gonzales 7.......L/L
2Yusei Kikuchi 18........L/L
3Chris Flexen 77
4James Paxton 44 IL-60......L/L
5Logan Gilbert 36
6Justin Dunn 35 IL-10

Justus Sheffield 33 IL-10......L/L
Ljay Newsome 74 IL-60

that rotation looks as good as any rotation the mariners have had,...in..just a long time...and there is still room..for sheffield...for now.

If baseball were like basketball in the way of sign and trades. I am not a fan of dealing Kelenic in nearly any scenario as of right now. That deal isn’t terrible for an off-season deal but they don’t put the Mariners over the hump to get in serious contention for a World Series.
