That's still a hell of a lot better than a starting pitcher that's thrown 183 innings of 68 ERA+ ball over the last four years.

Yeah. It’s still a bad trade. But not as ridiculously bad as initially anticipated.

Pretty much we got two players who’s glove is good enough to keep around, but not much offense for a pitcher that fell off the map.

This one could get quite brutal in a few years
LOL...it was already brutal this year:

Archer: WAR 0.9 5.19 ERA
And just think Archer is the Pirates Ace thanks to Taillon being out all next season.

---------------------------------------
Glasnow: WAR 2.1 2.03 ERA
Meadows: WAR 3.7 .289/.359/.567
Baz @ 20 in single A: 2.99 ERA 9.6 K/9 and better control than in prior seasons.

A couple others I thought of:

Fernando Tatis Jr for James Shields.
Yordan Alvarez for Josh Fields.

Cashner/Rizzo
Kluber/Westbrook/Ludwick
Chapman/Torres

I'd probably say Kluber of those three. Cards/Padres didn't get much of anything out of Westbrook/Ludwick and Kluber was one of the very best pitchers in the league from 2014-18.
The Cardinals did get a World Series ring out of it. I'm not saying Westbrook was important but we're getting into Chaos Theory if we're changing almost any event at all for that year with the Cardinals because a million things had to go right for them to win the WS.

That year gave Mozeliak way too much rope, though. If he didn't have that I think he would've been fired with Matheny.

that's fair. I don't think the Cards got jobbed by any means in that trade, more that the Padres got fucked.

how about a ptbnl:suds:

June 14, 2015: the San Diego Padres sent Trea Turner to the Washington Nationals to complete an earlier deal made on December 19, 2014. December 19, 2014: The San Diego Padres sent a player to be named later and Joe Ross to the Washington Nationals. The San Diego Padres sent Jake Bauers, Rene Rivera and Burch Smith to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Tampa Bay Rays sent Jose Castillo, Ryan Hanigan, Wil Myers and Gerardo Reyes to the San Diego Padres. The Washington Nationals sent Travis Ott (minors) and Steven Souza Jr. to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Well yeah but that was always just procedural, no? Turner couldn't technically be traded until a year after he'd signed as a draft pick but there was never any question about it.

Right but that's largely because most of them come by that designation somewhat differently than Turner did. Usually it's a "pick a guy from this list of 16 year olds" type of thing.

It wasn't really a trade, but when the Tigers let Max Scherzer go free agent (to Washington) only to sign Washington Starter Jordan Zimmerman a year latter.

Yeah, I can't say I saw that one coming. I thought the Zimmermann signing was a good one at the time. He was consistently very good (though his peripherals were never that great despite having good stuff).

Not a trade but the worst thing that has happened in baseball was the Mariners signing Chone Figgins which forfeited their 2nd 1st round pick which they wanted Mike Trout? At least in Seattle he’d get global exposure instead of Anaheim who keeps pretending they are in LA and have more fans than the Dodgers.
