How does this thread get so many posts with only a few mentions of Jeff Loria, the worst owner in the history of professional sports?

Loria, David Glass, Carl Pohlad, Tom Hicks, Hank & Hal Steinbrenner, Frank McCourt, Marge Schott, the Tribue Co., Harry Frazee.

I have a hard time putting the Wilpons on here, other than on the "present" list. They've screwed up massively in recent years and should be forced to sell the team, but until the Madoff scandal, they really did everything they could to put a quality product on the field, and were part of the ownership group during the 1980s when the Mets were at their peak (though Doubleday obviously had a bigger role at that time).

They are not the worst in the sense that they don't give a shit about the team, they just suck at baseball. They hire all the wrong guys, constantly make terrible decisions (like Chipper Jones Day?). I think they actually care about the team and really want to win, they're just so inept and can't hire the right guys.

It's possible Sandy Alderson is the right guy, but I've heard theories that MLB kind of forced Alderson on them. After the Madoff debacle and the Mets taking a $40 million loan from Major League Baseball the league said ok, you guys are completely inept and we have no faith that you can bring in the right people to straighten this out so we're giving you a guy from our front office that's all about moneyball. Makes enough sense for me to believe it.

I have no doubt there's credence to those rumors about Alderson. Wilpon is one of the good ole boys, so he'll never be forced out the way McCourt was. They should have been, but instead the owners chose to help them out and gave them one of MLB's own employees to help them out of the pickle.
