  1. The Washington Redskins allowed the unimaginable to happen: They let a franchise quarterback in his prime hit free agency.

After two straight franchise tags, Washington and Kirk Cousins couldn't reach a long-term solution. Cousins became arguably the biggest-name free agent in NFL history and signed a fully guaranteed three-year, $84 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

Washington already responded by trading a third-round pick and cornerback Kendall Fuller to the Kansas City Chiefs for Alex Smith knowing Cousins wasn't going to re-sign. The 34-year-old suffered a gruesome leg injury in Week 11, and his return to football remains uncertain, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Even before the injury, Smith hadn't played well. His 62.5 completion percentage was his worst since the 2013 campaign. He wasn't on pace to eclipse 3,500 passing yards, either, which Cousins did in each of the previous three seasons. While 14 quarterbacks have already thrown for 20 or more touchdowns, Smith finished with 10 in 10 games.

Contract negotiations often become contentious, but an organization must put that aside and do what's best for business. Washington didn't, and as a result, it downgraded at the game's most important position.
the abc crowd has been silent on this since CDC got hurt and his awful play showed up just like shark and I along with others predicted
we were told he would be as good or better and we got colt mccoy on roids (maybe )
we gave up a 3rd round pick and a starting CB for a lateral transfer (if you can call it that )
now perhaps when we criticize a trade based on what we gave up for what we got and what we could have done instead it will be taken as criticism and not team bashing like the hurt feelings ABC crowd wanted to portray
truth is we down graded at 2 positions qb (where we suddenly got old and unproductive ) and at CB ( where are supposed answers werent ready or are hurt)
now the lame mantra is fuller wouldnt have made a difference . in our record sorry but better secondary play played a key role in the saints loss, falcons loss and the cowboys loss.
if our secondary produces in just one of those games we are in a different situation
alas ABCers the trade you fell on your collective swords on leaves us with 2 old bus driver qbs , wasted cap space (again ) , looking for a QB (again ) while we let our best qb walk over stupidity from the FO and lack of vision by the ABC crowd

Nah uh...AS was a huge upgrade and it showed. We were 6-3 before all the injuries took place and winning is all that matters. AS was so good outside of the stats. His leadership led us to victories. Did you see how well he hand3d the ball to AP and supported his defense. He made them all so much better. Not everything he did showed up on the stat sheet.

Wow...I made it through the paragraph without being struck down by lightning. I am amazed.
