Didn't read the articles posted in the OP, but I'm still shaking my head about Denver losing to Jax in the playoffs of the 96 season. Three Lombardi's in a row would have been enough to shut up all but the most ignorant of mouth breathers who claim that Elway is overrated.

THey nailed it on the Eagles. If they ever should have won a SB it was 2003. THey were a better team then Tampa... but just not that day.

Don't get too torn up about it. Denver probably would not have beaten the Packers in Super Bowl 31. Hell, Denver should not have beaten Green Bay in 32 either. I will go to my grave believing the Packers had the better team.

You'll go to your grave confused, then. That '97 broncos team WAS the better team

You raise a legitimate point. Not at all certain that Denver would have beaten GB, or even advanced to SB, in '96. Tell yourself what you like about '97. Scoreboard don't lie.

Is it worse to lose by a late FG than to get your doors blown off from the first series?

In one you are in the game and enjoying it up to the last second. The other, you aren't interested in the game for 3 quarters.

The Butler interception of Wilson's pass makes the last Superbowl the easy choice for the "worst loss" of the Seahawks franchise. However, I still feel better about that loss than the 2005 SB loss to Pittsburgh. At least the Hawks lost due to their own actions last time, but in 2005 it felt like the loss was largely out of their control. Stealers fans will argue, and the debate has been done to death, but that's just the way I felt then and still do now.

Yep,back in eighties as a young kid and teen i liked baseball, basketball, wrestling, etc. as time went on i lost interest in pretty much everything except NFL nothing compares its perfect. Also grew up without an NFL team until '99 when Tennessee got the Titans.

Whew, one of the most nauseating horrible experiences for me was losing big money. I know many who lost big money on the Pats/Giants as well the year the Pats were undefeated.

For me, the article mentioned the Ravens lost to the Pats this year but that wasn't the game. The biggest one game that had me heaving was the Jan 2012 AFCCG against the Pats. The WR dropped the ball with just seconds left in the end zone. They still had a chance to take the game into OT but the kicker missed a chip shot (30 something yd'er).

Good question. Two very different types of heart break. Tough to rank order.

Elway got a bum wrap because he got less superior teams to the title games and when he got their the teams got exposed.... In 97-98 he had a running game and he had a solid defense, results showed..... It's funny because the Broncos were heavy under-dogs going up against the Packers, but I knew without a doubt they had a great chance to win it, with Elway having Davis and that running game with a solid defensive unit..... That was one of the best Super-Bowls I ever watched... Also ended a 13 year drought for the AFC ...
