Yes, the Big10 is going through some tough times. MSU, a very solid team is injured and very fortunate to beat Iowa 2 nights ago. Wisconsin losing to Northwestern and PENN STATE over Ohio State; who saw that coming?

Part of this highlights the problems with pre-season rankings and how those rankings play into conference strength perception.

Remember a few years ago when the Big East was so dominant and every media outlet was stroking their ego... they were all ranked high and all beating each other in close games...so that must mean they were all top teams right?

Then March comes, they get a record number of teams in the dance... and by the round of 32, half were gone.. and by the round of 16 most were gone.

Rankings are worthless... like football, they shouldn't allow a basketball ranking to come out until end of January once teams have played a solid in conference schedule.

wasn't that the year that a team from the big east WON the national championship (UCONN)?

if so, that throws this whole argument out the window.

and let's not compare football rankings to basketball rankings, they simply don't effect their respective sports in the same way. you say that rankings shouldn't come out until january like football, but those rankings that come out TAKE INTO ACCOUNT the AP and coaches polls that are based on preseason polls and performance up until that point

That was the season UCONN finished 8th in the Big East. Once their conference tournament began they never lost another game.

why did i even have to bring it up. we were two missed wide open threes at the end of the game away from the final four, and it haunts me almost as much as the Illinois game in '05

I still remember Givens of Kentucky beating Duke in the Championship and scoring at will. That shit never leaves you.

LOL....I was with you until last night when Penn State beat Ohio State. Surely you must know they know nothing about basketball at Penn State...How could that possibly happen???

Northwestern earns first win in Madison since '96.....18 years ago

"I don't even know what to say," said guard Ben Brust, who led the Badgers with 21 points.

The Badgers lost for the fourth time in five games. Wisconsin plays host to No. 24 Ohio State on Saturday.

Both teams can't lose. OSU has a shot then.

The Wildcats got their first victory over Wisconsin overall since 2009....5 years ago. Until 2008-09, Northwestern was one of the few long-standing members of Division I to have never had a 20-win season.

Northwestern won its last Big Ten Conference title in 1933.....81 years ago

Northwestern has consistently finished in the bottom half of the Big Ten, with only two finishes above fourth place since World War II and none since 1968.

Northwestern is the only longstanding member of a BCS conference to have never appeared in an NCAA tournament

Before losing 4 of their last 5, Wisconsin was 16-0...their best start in 100 years

the Badgers won each of their first 15 games in the 1911-12 and 1913-14 seasons.

I might be the only one here that remembers a winless (in conference play) desperate Penn State team, take down a championship caliber, Michigan team last season. The same Michigan team that disposed of Florida, with ease, in the Elite 8. I wouldn't be surprised if Penn State had a .600-.750 record in the SEC.

Without Deshaun Thomas, the Bucknuts have proven to struggle tremendously in the B1G. The writing was on the wall.

All this talk from Florida fans about the "Big Ten's woes" is hilarious. The SEC's best team wasn't defeated by the B1G's 4th or 5th best team?

The part that gets me as that we let one player beat us, Drew Crawford had 30, no one else did much of anything. They had guys hit big shots, when they're normally offensively challenged. A frustrating night on so many levels. Credit to Northwestern because they played great, but again, how the hell do we let one guy us?!

I hope the Badger basketball team watches the Northwestern film and awe and admires a team that takes pride on the defensive end of the floor. This is the first time in a few years where I'm legitimately worried about a Badger basketball team, this team is just so frustrating. We should be better, and I get that Northwestern is improving and this is a great conference..but wow this team is sinking. At least the same thing happened to Ohio State. Battle of the floundering teams on Saturday. Need to beat the Buckeyes.
