I wouldn't mind Detroit coming to the Atlantic. I want no part of Columbus coming over though. If either team were to join who gets kicked out? Pitt to the NE? Philly to SE? I'd personally rather lose Pitt, but not for Columbus.

Detroit should stay

Columbus Should go to the Southeast

Minnesota to the Central

Winnipeg to the Northwest

That makes the most sense, but I don't like it.

Detroit, Michigan: Latitude: 42.331685 / Longitude: -83.047924
Columbus, Ohio: Latitude: 39.96196 / Longitude: -83.002984

Columbus is slightly more east than Detroit. Pretty much by a **** hair.

edit: This is just by general city coordinates. I wonder about the actual arenas.

Detroit 83° 2' 44" W

Still an unruly **** hair.

Sorry, gotcha. So then how would the playoff seedings work? Just a single 1-16 bracket, with the division winners as seeds 1-3?

I dunno, I leave that to people with brains, I just laid the groundwork.

How does that work for playoffs then? 3 Finalists? You need even numbers for the ultimate basis of the playoffs. You can have an odd number of divisions (which are largely meaningless) in an even-numbered conference, but not 3 conferences/divisions. That would never work.

Wild cards? I dont friggin know.

I wouldn't mind seeing a division with Pittsburgh, Detroit, Philly and New Jersey. Even the New York teams have made some great runs over the years. Some would obviously have to be dropped, but those teams playing each other six times a year would be amazing.

They should eliminate divisions, and every year the two worst NHL teams get kicked down to the AHL, and the two best AHL teams get promoted to the NHL....

I actually like this idea.

That's what pretty much every major sports league outside of North America does anyhow. In some form anyhow, since the worst two are usually given the ability to stay up by playing in a relegation tournament.

Force the teams to try to be competitive.

Would never happen though since most AHL teams are affiliates rather than it being a true second-tier league.
