I am not referring to the idea in this thread, I am saying I like the idea of having only three 10 team divisions. I made it up in one of the other threads pertaining to this subject.

How does that work for playoffs then? 3 Finalists? You need even numbers for the ultimate basis of the playoffs. You can have an odd number of divisions (which are largely meaningless) in an even-numbered conference, but not 3 conferences/divisions. That would never work.

Yeah, but I think any of the teams in the East outside of Carolina, TB, and Florida are all really close together geographically. So I was thinking the teams that are closest to them, which is Washington, Philly, and Pitt. And then where Detroit goes is the wild card. About equal distance (though a little further than most) from either group of teams.
I was taking the opposite approach: cluster the closest NE teams into one division, and put the rest in the other. :)

I don't like the idea of uneven divisions at all...unless:
- The schedule is completely balanced with no regard to the divisions. My opinion on this is that if they decide to do 4 games against each division opponent (as an example), some teams would play 28 division games while others would only play 24, which I don't like because the division games are worth more relative to other games when it comes time for playoff seeding.
- Playoff seeding is based on a pure 1-8 for each conference (see above for reason).

Ottawa
NY Rangers

Pittsburgh

Take out Buffalo and put in Philly and Pgh...all original 12 teams ;)

If you have two large divisions, then the division winners being the top seed (or not) doesn't make much difference. You couldn't have a scenario where a division winner wouldn't make the playoffs otherwise (which you could actually have now) and it has the same seeding advantages/disadvantages of the present system.

I meant most of them are Original 6. Obviously, Ottawa is not an Original 6 either and Chicago is in the West.
Oops, I missed Ottawa as well...so take out Buffalo and Ottawa and replace with Philly and Pittsburgh, all original 12 teams in the east :)

All I know is they can't seperate the Devils and Rangers. The arenas are 7 miles apart. Do you realize how small of a distance 7 miles really is?

If you have a division with 8 teams in it, you could, in theory, not have any playoff teams from the other division. I know though, highly unlikely.

I wouldn't mind the division winners both getting in automatically since it's unlikely you'd get all 8 from one division anyhow, but I don't want them to be automatically seeded 1-2.

An Original Six Division would be fucking awesome. Therefore, it can't possibly fucking happen.

I assume Detroit would go to the Atlantic and then either Philly or Pitt to the SE? Seems weird, but then again, so did Washington leaving behind it's Patrick Division rivals.

Can Detroit go somewhere else please? I know my team has beaten them the past few years, but the thought of playing the Wings 6 times per year is giving me a HEADACHE.

fuck Columbus. They shouldn't have any say in the matter. Same for Nashville, especially since they're in the Central Time Zone.

Detroit BELONGS in the East.

Except that Columbus is actually FURTHER east than Detroit.

But let's not let maps get in the way of handing everything over to Illytch. Again.

I would say Fuck Detroit, but God has already done that.
