Hmmm - Detroit to the East?!?

I like it.

/Of course, why couldn't this have happened about 5 years ago when Detroit was uber-good?!?

I thought the NHL said they were going to meet about this next offseason and come up with some potentially significant and large changes? Wonder if they are just doing a 1-for-1 change and what that means for the East divisions if so. Where would Detroit go? Who moves to the SE division if not Detroit?

NJ? Beats the hell outta me. I cant see them splitting up the NY/LI/NJ trio.

This doesn't appear to make a whole lot of sense, certainly not with the current division format. I'll believe it when I see it.

I assume Detroit would go to the Atlantic and then either Philly or Pitt to the SE? Seems weird, but then again, so did Washington leaving behind it's Patrick Division rivals.

Yeah, I'm skeptical. And my "skepticaldar" has been pretty accurate lately.

I would think that Minnesota would want to move to the Central Division and Winnipeg would prefer to be in the NW (Smythe) division with long-time rivals Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver.

I don't know, was Leipold drunk when he did this interview?!?

I still don't understand Detroit coming and not Columbus. Mostly because I'd love to play CBus 6 times a year, NOT Detroit. That division would be ridiculous if they were to come to the Atlantic (which would make the most sense geographically)

Except that another strong team would have to leave the Atlantic to move to the SE to make that possible, no?

fuck Columbus. They shouldn't have any say in the matter. Same for Nashville, especially since they're in the Central Time Zone.

Detroit BELONGS in the East.

True, very confusing how that all would work though. Of the Atlantic teams, who'd move? Other than the Pens they're all very close to each other over there, but the Pens wouldn't fit in the SE. And I doubt they move the Philly Pitt rivalry. I dunno...certainly seems that Detroit is moving. That is until Phoenix moves to Quebec City and kicks 'em back :)

That's a pretty bizarre outline that he gave.

Moving Nashville or Columbus to the SE would be the easiest solution, by far to the whole thing.

So I'm sure they're going to over-complicate it :L
